In Which Sam is a Card Shark

This episode amused me to no end.

Old!Dean was spot on, I've got to say. That guest actor had every one of Dean's mannerisms and characteristics. I loved him and Bobby bickering and Sam's obvious amusement at the whole matter.

Cliff and the he-witch were actually good looking. Thanks, casting! And the witches weren't altogether bad, just ambiguous. Patrick could be generous, though more often than not he wasn't.

Interesting that Sam was the better card player. He said it was just luck, but I think it has more to do with the fact that Dean and Bobby are far too honest. They can't bluff the way Sam did, who even down to the end when Dean was dying was still bluffing when he knew he had the winning hand. There's a level of coldness and ruthlessness to Sam that Dean just doesn't have (yet, judging from flashforwards he could easily get there). It's Sam's ability to panic and still make level choices that will get him somewhere and I'm glad he's back to that.
