In Which There's Going to be a Slap Fight

An excellent picspam of three recent versions of Lancelot. I admit to thinking that Michael Vartan looked WAY too modern and WAY too pretty boy for the role. Ioan Gruffudd was basically Lancelot in name only. Granted, I liked the character, but he was more Roman soldier than anything from legend. Santiago Cabrera is by far my favorite version. I don't understand people who are mad at Gwen -- or Lancelot for that matter. She doesn't owe Arthur anything at all, least of all loyalty - he's the one who told her his father wouldn't accept her and put a halt to whatever might have developed between them. And I completely understand why she was drawn to Lancelot when she was afraid and thought no one at all cared for her or would come for her.

I like Arthur AND Lancelot (though I do prefer Arthur's awkwardness), but am actually mad at both of them right now because in the end, both guys hurt her. They came through for her on a physical level, quick to charge in to the rescue, but totally failed on an emotional level. And took her choice away from her, I might add. I think whichever one of them grows up and steps up to the plate is the one who deserves her. For now I want to take Gwen home and make her some soup and tell her that her feelings matter. :P

I love both Arthur and Lancelot (obviously I'm a lot loyaler to Arthur), but both of them rolled over and died in the clutch. While they're both willing to fight for her physically, neither one of them has figured out that there's more to it than that. Arthur won't fight his father and Lancelot won't fight Arthur. I don't think either boy deserves her at the moment. Arthur is the closer of the two. He at least sort of stood up to his father by going and getting Gwen anyway and rather than run off like Lancelot, he was more willing to stand up to a rival, or at least be angry rather than resigned. It doesn't seem like there was a lot of opposition for Lancelot to leave, though I understand being intimidated by your rival being a prince ( ... )
