Non-Productive Work Week

Aug 23, 2001 23:09

Tuesday, I spent the entire morning at work staring at my computer & not being productive, so at lunchtime, I told my boss I was taking the half-day off for my birthday which the company gives us (we didn't find out about the policy until last week, even though it's been in place since May).

I used the afternoon to go geodashing, hitting two sites in Connecticut and one in Rhode Island, putting me firmly in first place on the individual rankings, and giving my team a 5 point lead on the team scoreboard. On the way back from Rhode Island, I called Sachem & stopped by to visit for a while. It was really good to see her & Olivier again after about 4 years. Since I got there fairly late, we talked for a while, then made rough plans to get together & do something in September when both our calendars clear up.

Wednesday, I came home from work and watched The Conversation on DVD. I quite enjoyed it, then dashed out to the library to drop it off.

After that, I ran to Enterprise to pick up the car that I drove to a job site in SE Pennsylvania today. Since I hadn't taken the company's driving test yet, I couldn't get a company car, and I realized that the amount they pay me for mileage will easily cover a rental car & the gas to run it, as long as I'm driving at least 200 miles. I'd rather not put the miles on my Jeep if I don't have to, since it's got almost 180000 miles on it.

This morning I got up early to drive out to the job site near Reading. It's about a 3 hour drive from home, and we were meeting with the land-owner at 10, so I had to leave about a half hour earlier than usual. It was a nice drive out, sunny but cool, but it got rainy by the time I got back. After I got back, I took the company's driving test so next time I'll be able to take a company car.

Tomorrow we're having a team picnic, which will complete my "no productive office work" work-week. With any luck, the rain will have cleared up by tomorrow.

geodashing, sprint
