Round One DDR/PIU Tournaments!
Saturday I did something i haven't done in years - enter a dnace game tournament. Vest and Geymal were holding it, and it didn't look like it had many entrants, so I decided to enter for the hell of it.
Vest had a bombshell prize for first place: an X2 Arrow pad signed by naoki, TaQ, and Ota, the producer of DDR. Then Round One who was sponsering the event, added a $100 game card to the pot as well! so these prizes were WAY out of sync with the tournament...that kind of pirze (second place was a signed DDR poster and $50 round 1 game card....3rd place was $25 game card and another poster) that only had 8 people join.
Now the game itself is pretty awesome. I like the song selections of the old mixes, and while i never really palyed SN1 or SN2 or X1, After scrolling through I'm not totally pissed at the new music. Theres still no more disco and oldies, but theres more modern pop and some alternative, like Gorillaz. The game's HD screen though was so retardedly laggy it really ruined the fun of the game, even to me who doesnt' really care that much. I know my skill and I should NOT be getting more than 10 greats on fucking Cutie Chaser.
Anyway, I beat my first opponent in DDR and my next opponent was Justin so I pretty much lost badly.
Pump it up Pro I lost to Enz0, beat Vest in the losers bracket and then faced an old pump buddy, Nico. Last time I saw him was at the Regency theatre arcade in long beach like 3 years ago. He seemed to be in better shape though still a tiny shrimpy guy. We had an amazing battle on his pick (Xuxa) where we tied the Superb count but I had one great instead of a perfect, and that was the final; me 97.07 to his 97.11. So close for the entire match.
This is cool because he said he trained for 3 days prior to the tournament...while I played wow and went to work so I'm thinking of getting ready for the next tournament and actually putting in some effort to get better with my timing.
After the tournament it was Vest, me, Justin (shenjoku), Ian, Daiquiri, and Nico and we all went to Banana Bay - Which by the way is a super awesome place. good food, a bar, a stage with live singing and karaoke (for a tip). Vest wanted me to go to AI with him but I had to take Daiq home.
As I drove home vest sent me a message that Evil Ryu and Oni (shin akuma) were unlocked and i instantly regretted not going. I ended up going on Sunday and it was fun if not for Gootecks being there and using rose beating everyone...
