at the very least, its much less severe than the last one. it simply covers the ship like a light, paper thing blanket made of gauze, a fuzzy film that seems to shift and crinkle when you stare at it too long. pay it no mind and you'll hardly notice that it's there, but this ship-wide distortion immediately begins to do odd things to the interior of the vessel. sounds that have no source, shadows cast by no one.
ghosts. they come and go very quickly, sometimes disappearing out of the corner of one's eye before you can turn and look at them. yet as the distortion lingers on, the ghosts linger to, for longer and longer intervals, until nearly an hour after it started it is as though the ship were fully occupied with transparent, nearly-silent phantoms.
in addition to this, something else has changed]

Not unexpectedly, Levels 5, 6, and 7, aka the main docking bay, are now available! It looks no different than it did the first time the passengers were allowed entry, massive and empty, though they will find at the far end the locked bay doors that the commander told them about. One can assume that the vacuum of space is beyond.
Luckily for everyone on the ship, with this announcement they have returned to their old bodies. About time, no? But now they have to contend with the ghosts wandering in their midst. They're not a particularly destructive lot, no; the ghosts appear to be, by all accounts, the original passengers of the ship. Or at least some echo of them. They are moving about the ship much like any group of people on their vacation might move about a cruise ship. There are families strolling through the shopping level, businessmen taking a load off at the spa, couples spending some quality time together down at the dome. But though they go through doors and pick up items, in reality those doors don't open and those items don't move. The passengers aren't really there and those currently trapped on the ship could shout at them, slap at them, even walk right through them, and nothing will come of it.
Of course, knowing that a phantom isn't really there - though it might have been, some time in the past - might not help a character sleep any better when one lays down in their bed with them! Or when one starts undressing in the cabin with them, especially considering that not all the former passengers are human, or even remotely humanoid. It seems the Crucible was very alien friendly!
These ghosts, though invasive and numerous, aren't really much use, save one. It's entirely possible to see the captain - the Captain Ganymede of the past - among them. And that brings me to this plot's quick-time event. Once more, I will be posting entries in the mod journal pertaining to the overreaching plot, this time in the form of scenes from the captain's past, from before the very first time the ship entered the black hole. There will be three, posted in the mod journal sometime between now and next Wednesday. The timing will be random and the "scenes" will remain posted for two hours. Once the time is up, the ghosts will fade into something else, and if no one was present to witness the event, then whatever information it contained will be lost.
The entries will have comments disabled, seeing as talking to the ghosts would have no effect anyway, but what characters can do is record the scene with their Spheres. How this translates into LJ journal terms is simple: take a screen cap of the entry to share, if you so desire. For anyone using Windows the Print Screen button and the Paint program are all you need. I'm afraid I don't know the process for Macs, but if a Mac user is willing to share, feel free! :D
I don't have to tell you that anything pertaining to the past is valuable, so stay sharp!
As for official business, the ACTIVITY CHECK is now complete! I recommend that everyone head over to the Friends Add/Drop to update their flists. If anyone who was removed during the check simply because they missed it, you can contact me at any time and we can work something out. And I'd like to thank everybody that's staying for the long run. :3 We've just under two months to go and I for one will continue these plots posts as long as there are at least a couple of you that would like to see the end. We've come much to far to miss out on the finale now. I'm hoping it'll be a good one. ;D
If you have any questions about the plot or need to contact me about the check, please post your comments here!
