I was watching the Dir en grey Tour 05 It Withers and Withers DVD last night and noticed something different with it. No, not the fact the singer was singing in mostly Japanese, but the female to male crowd ratio. Even if they dropped the visual kei look, the fans still think they're hot, and Dir en Grey still cater to their tastes to quite a degree. And do they still do the rubbing up all over each other bit? I don't know if they do, but if they do, that is really all that matters. XD In any event, western metal bands don't make much of any effort to amass female fans, and that's why they don't have many. :P

I'd describe visual kei as more like, 70's glam/shock rock combined with a BL manga. XD Those rockers back then were pretty androgynous and suggestive, but few hold a candle to the pure homo-homo-ghei of visual kei.

True enough, but I think they stopped the whole rubbing up each other thing you've mentioned. Though, I do get where you're coming from.
