Ok, it's time for the update where I've forgotten most things that have happened since it's been so long since I updated. Ah well, never mind. Right, what's been going on.
I finally, finally have a new job. It's in a lab rather than an office and is so much better. No bloody phones ringing all the time, and I can actually do something useful. All in all, I'm liking the job. The early mornings and working every second weekend (even if it is only for a few hours) aren't all that great... but I'm getting use to it.
I've just been accepted for my second Chinese class, so that should start on the 23rd. I'm all excited about it, though I really need to do a bit of revision before hand. I can still read what I learned, but when I try to write it I keep putting lines in the wrong place or blanking completely.
Belly dancing is going well. That starts again in a couple of weeks too. Tracey and I really need to get our fingers out and come up with a routine for the end of the month. Still, we should be working on it tomorrow night, so that's all good. I got myself a skirt for practicing a couple of weeks ago. I say practicing because it's rather see-through. For a show I'd need another one under it, but I'll build up an outfit over time rather than shell out loads in one go.
Hm, what else?
davechicken, and the rest of the Durham gang came up for New Year. We stayed at Tracey's where various folk were kept awake by crickets (they're there to feed the lizards), and Rob and I managed to get peed on by the cat. Still, after waking up on the 1st with my feet in a puddle of urine, I figure the year's got to get better from then. :) I'm just glad we hadn't planned on going to the Hogmanay party in Edinburgh. What a shame. We still got to see Paolo Nutini on the TV for the countdown though. :)
I've been debating trying to do that 50 books in a year challenge, and I think I may give it a go this year. I'll probably do a proper post later once I've played around with the % bars and what not, but for now here's my list for 2007.
Books read so far:
Kushiel's Chosen - Jacqueline Carey
Lords and Ladies - Terry Pratchett
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee (I'd read this before too so I'm not sure if it counts, but I'm sticking it in anyway.
Books I'm in the middle of:
Kushiel's Avatar - Jacqueline Carey
Orcs 'Bodyguard of Lightning' - Stan Nicholls
Books that should be read next:
Blink - Malcolk Gladwell
Hardboiled Hard Luck - Banana Yoshimoto
I'm sure these things are probably meant to include a review of each book or something, but since I'm only posting this here I figure I'll just do it my way... I'd rather like to look back after a year and see what it is I've actually spent time reading.
