So I have had a busy, enjoyable but very tiring week, not helped by the fact that I seem to be back to square one with my medical problems and not sleeping very well. Tuesday night I went out for a Chinese with Patrick and Sharon. The usual Chinatown fare - quite tasty at the time but with an aftertaste of guilt and monosodium glutamate. I think the beef in chili sauce was what did me in and I got a pretty bad night's sleep even though I was back home in Thornton Heath by ten. Wednesday I was up in Camden to see the Wedding Present at Koko which was the Camden Palace in its previous incarnation. The Weddoes were on pretty good form and played the whole of their breakthrough album George Best in its entirety from start to finish. (The tour is to mark the 20th anniversary of George Best being released). Most of the songs fall into two categories extremely fast and loud and fast and loud although there are tunes and lyrics and all that old-fashioned stuff to sing along to as well. The building was amazing with lots of balconies, random staircases, corridors and bars appearing where you least expected them. All the corridors were blood red which was fitting for Halloween and when I set off for the toilet before the concert started I scarcely expected to make it back alive. Last night was German. Lots of long faces around the table at the start (I think everyone is down in the dumps now the clocks have gone back) but once we got going it was OK and we got through to funfundswanzig nach neun without a break. Off to the fireworks on Streatham Common tonight with Rowan which should be good then I have got the church Halloween party (any excuse!) tomorrow night.
I will be having a quiet week next week though. Mostly made up of TV and chocolate biscuits !
PS I have set up a website for my writing and will be trying to do stuff for that rather than posting on LJ although I will probably still come on here to comment now and then. If any of the regulars would like to e-mail me it would be great to hear from you - I am on john.r.gale@kcl.ac.uk.
sassylidge can vouch for the fact that while I am no oil painting I am not a psychotic maniac either !
