So after thinking I'd be out a lot last week I had a much quieter week than expected. Claire couldn't make it on Thursday night as she had to take her daughter to Thorpe Park
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorpe_Park and Rowan bailed out on Friday because she had to work late. But at least I woke up feeling refreshed and with a bit more money on Saturday morning. Had a big fat lie in took my stuff round to the launderette and then did a bit of German. Having been completely rubbish last year, and over summer, in terms of doing any homework I am really trying to pull my finger out this year. It's so hard though ! Much more complicated than French or Italian - all those cases are fiendish ! Went to the gym in the afternoon then strolled into Croydon afterwards for a coffee and a chocolate brownie. Got back in time for Strictly Come Dancing. Don't know much about the dancing itself but I love watching all the training and the judges' comments. I'm a big fan of the lovely Kate Garraway but even I could tell she can't dance to save her life ; lucky for her she's got all those GMTV viewers to phone in for her. I'm rooting for John Barnes at the moment. Partly because he's a football legend but also because he's a very nice man. Be nice if another sportsman won it again this year after Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash the last two years. Went round to the church for the Afro-Caribbean evening afterwards. Had some nice West Indian food but otherwise just sat on a table with all the usual suspects getting gently pissed. Obviously there's something about this not-quite-Catholic lot at St Albans because we were down the pub again on Sunday lunchtime. Just the four of us with Father Russell getting the drinks in. Good fun although I got back home at three with that awful post-afternoon-drinking feeling when you're too pissed to do anything useful and it's too early to go to bed. Wandered into town for another coffee and had a half-hearted look round a couple of the bookshops. Couldn't find the first part of the A Dance to the Music of Time series
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Dance_to_the_Music_of_Time although rather depressingly there were two novels by Katie Price
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_%28Katie_Price%29 nestling next to where they should have been
Not sure whether this says anything profound about me, Croydon or the literary tastes of the British public ; or whether I was just feeling maudlin from two pints of bitter and the clocks going back ...
Got back to find the toaster not working which will have about the same impact on my diet as the potato famine did on Ireland. I will have to get used to untoasted white-sliced bread until I can get myself round to Tescos for a new one. Lucky for me I am out quite a bit this week so I should be able to survive on restaurant meals for the time being.
And that's all. Dark outside the library now, and almost home time !
