I don't want to be snippy...
But I LOATHE the idea of tax cuts for married couples. It completely undermines unmarried couples and suggests that marraige, by virtue of bit of sodding paper, makes you a "better" family. I used to work for a fostering agency. Kids get abused in families where the parents are married and those who are not. In fact, sometimes the worse abuse is internalised because of the marriage. Good people make good parents, that is the end of the story.
Plus, of course, it does rather kick single parents and single people right up the arse. How dare a politician suggest normality is marriage via the tax system. How dare they define my life by taxing me for not shacking up, wearing a fucking meringue, and procreating.
