Buffalo, I'm going to miss you. (Who knew?!)
University commencement is bright & early tomorrow morning, and then we shall depart UB in the afternoon. This place, though I've taken it for granted on so many occasions, has been my home for the past 4 years. It was the big city this little country girl ran off to in a quest to gain some culture. I've grown so much here, so I've become rather attached.
An amazing library system. Satisfactory public transportation. The theater district. Buffalo Sabres hockey. Niagara Falls, a mere 20 minutes away. Kick-ass chicken wings. Such history here! In the past 4 years, I've seen: Bill Clinton, Anderson Cooper, Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, the Dalai Lama, Colin Powell, Al Gore, Conan O'Brien, Eve Ensler, Megan Mullally, Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinkin, All-American Rejects, Jack's Mannequin, Craig Ferguson, and Michael Moore here. I've bussed up to Toronto for a New York Yankees baseball game, and I've bussed down to New York City (3 times!) for a book signing and Broadway. I've learned under a few fairly distinguished film professors and attended advance film screenings. I've seen "thundersnow" and clung to trees to fight Buffalo's harsh winds. I've attended drag shows, festivals, and art showings, and won $50 at the casino. I've seen my university's football team win a game with a play in the last 5 seconds of a game.
Yes, I'm going to miss this place.
I'm a Buffalonian. This place feels like home, but I'm afraid that I just can't stay. My responsibilities lie elsewhere.
I will be back, though. Even as soon as May 19th, for a "Job Search Bootcamp". As an alumni, I'll be able to buy tickets for UB's annual Distinguished Speaker Series. Also, how can I not come back for amazing concerts & company road tours at Shea's and UB's Center for the Arts? I never did get to attend the Buffalo-Niagara Film Festival either, so you can bet your sweet bippy that I'm squeezing that in eventually, too. Let alone visit some cramazin' peeps here. (Yes, that includes YOU,
pinkie_da !)
So, fairest "Queen City", I bid you farewell, but this is not "goodbye". This is an "I'll see you soon"!
XO
