I've read a bunch of licensing news lately that makes me squeal inside. (I am too old to squeal any other way. Heh.)
I was crushed when Geneon stopped distributing Kyo Kara Maoh, my favorite anime, right near the end of the second season. Luckily, the fandom has picked up the slack (I love you guys) and I have seen the end of the second season, the five OVAs, and the beginning of the third season. And now I have the manga to look forward to, as Tokyopop has picked it up and the first one looks like
it'll be published in October 2008, and I just read on
kyo_kara_maoh that Tokyopop has also picked up the light novels. I can't express how excited I am about this, because I've been wanting to read those for over a year now, and my Japanese . . . eh, is not so good. Now, if we could just get another company to release the rest of the anime officially, so that I can buy the DVDs . . . .
Also, Little, Brown has apparently
picked up the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels, and plan to begin publishing them a year from now, in April 2009. I ended up really liking the four-volume anime that's out now from Bandai -- it's super quirky and stands out in the quality of its animation, voice work, and storytelling -- so seeing the light novels where it came from will be awesome. And I guess Yen Press will publish the manga, too.
Looks like I'll need to start budgeting for my anime and manga, because it is starting to take over my life. Not to mention the square footage of my house.
And finally, I am still following Inuyasha as it comes out chapter by endless fucking chapter in Japan at this excellent web site,
The Inuyasha Companion. The site posts summaries for each chapter, now up to volume 56, chapter 550, and it looks like the series may actually end in my lifetime. *shock* Of course, we've been on what looks like the final battle for ten chapters or more, and I'm sure Takahashi can drag it out even more, but my hope that I will see Inuyasha end is growing. It's time, Takahashi-sensei. It's time.
