I am the one who dwells within

Netflix's little red envelope brought us The Exorcism of Emily Rose the other night. It was a good movie. Not so much a horror movie, but a courtroom drama with a very interesting premise: What happens when you ask a secular judicial system to deliver a verdict on religious beliefs?

Oh, there were scary parts, to be sure, the kind of REALLY LOUD, THUNDER CRASHING, SOMEONE SCREAMING horror that makes you jump even though you know it's coming. And Jennifer Carpenter plays Emily -- eyes bulging, body contorted -- with a gut-wrenching ferociousness. Where this movie failed, perhaps, was that it was trying to be more than just a horror movie, therefore letting the spine-chilling drama rise and fall too many times. And when you are doing a film that people will undoubtedly compare to The Exorcist, you can't let that happen.

Was Emily possessed? Was she really epileptic and died because of the misguided beliefs of her church? The truth is usually stranger than fiction, and it's left up for you to decide.

So, what do you say: Do you believe in possession?
