1) All reference material can be sent to comicart at shaw dot ca, and yes, photos of the nursery mural would be an excellent place to start. From there we can discuss which approach you'd like to take in more detail. (I'm not quite sure what you mean by my "Ambrosia menu" though... would you mind clarifying?)
The cost for this particular item would be 8"x10" for $20 rate quoted in the original post, unless you want it larger, in which case we can work something else out.
Another thing to note is that at this point I'm not sure I could turn around a Kodak photoprint at my end (I get them done at a local photo lab) and into the mail in time for Christmas delivery, so you might want to take the high-res file I'll be sending you and get the print made locally. I can provide you with all the right magical phrases to use to ensure that you get the best possible product, or I'll liaise with your print shop myself via email to give them the file and the instructions. If you intend to get the print matted and framed you'll want to start looking into that at your end sooner rather than later since framing shops get a bit crazy around Christmastime.
2) Pick away! Send me those images as well, and we can discuss a rate for tattoo design based on how complex the project would be. (I'll also need a bit of time to research going rates for that sort of work, which I intend to undercut if I possibly can.)

At this point, I'm not too worried about having the piece ready by Christmas morning, seeing as I have all of two very short weeks until then. My niece is only four months old, so she won't know, and my brother- and sister-in-law will likely be thrilled no matter when I drop it off. "Before the end of January" would be fine.
I was thinking maybe this general style, but I regularly second-guess my own artpinions, so let me know what you think. :)
