Spot to the rescue! Sort of.

Relative Date: Right after Dairine becomes possessed

Spot knew the moment it happened. He shared enough of Dairine's mind that he could tell when something else took up residence there. Usually, it was just a wizard, working on a spell. That was normal. That was even necessary. He stayed out of the way when that happened, helped out when needed, and everything was fine and normal.
With less frequency, it was quicklife sharing her mind, which was always a nice change of pace. Spot enjoyed the chance to converse at speeds that were easy for him, until Dairine got annoyed and told him to slow down. Then, of course, he did. That was normal, too.
This was definitely not normal, and Spot knew that right away. This wasn't even something trying to pretend it was normal. This was some darkness, spreading out over Dairine's mind silently while she slept. She didn't even notice. It was worrying how vulnerable she really was.
In those few seconds while Spot shrank further and further away from the spreading darkness, he made his decision. He pulled away from Dairine completely. Right now, there was nothing he could do, except maybe find someone else to help.
Quietly, Spot slipped under the door to the room, then elongated his legs and began moving off down the hall, hoping to find someone he recognized.
