What really worried Elena, was not what Damon had said earlier, or him dragging her out of a party - dressed as Dracula, of all things. It was the unmistakable worry in his tone, and on his face. In the time she'd known him, she'd never seen him look like that. "You know something - what's about to happen?" She asked, barely catching the mention of a time period, or something.

"Yes, only a few hours ago. I met Kitty and then we went to the dance..." she trailed off. "I feel fine. Why? I'm not going anywhere until you explain." she crossed her arms, fixing him with a glare that lost some of it's heat under her tiredness. The excitement of the day was really wearing her down.

Damon sighed, "must you always question everything! Really wish you didn’t have that necklace right now." Not that Damon really wanted to use his persuasion on her and gained her trust in that area, but in this case.

"Ok, listen," Damon moved closer to her. "People are about to get very sick here, something is happening, I don’t know what or why, but it is. Don’t ask me how I know, I just do. So, we have to get you out of here."

"Sick? Like how so?" Elena thought back to all of the people she'd seen, seemingly unaware of any illness among them. But despite everything he'd done, the edge to Damon's voice...she believed what he was saying. Hopefully she wouldn't regret that later.

"But then, all of those people. Do they know about this? Shouldn't we spread the word?" With that, she made to turn back to the room they'd just left.

Damon grabbed her arm to stop her. "No," he sighed, "it's not safe, Elena. We have to go, now." He looked her deep in the eyes, "this isn't some game or joke, just trust me on this." He probably should've came up with some other reason to get her to leave the area. He should’ve known that she'd want to go and help everyone. "Besides, do you really think they're going to believe you?"

Elena met his look with a stern glare of her own as she attempted to free her arm from the grip Damon had. She trusted he was telling the truth, they couldn't just leave everyone if this was as bad as Damon seemed to think.

"Alright then," Elena challenged, "give me a reason to believe you. I mean, you've never given me a good reason to trust you. Why should I start now?"

"Because if I wanted to, I could have already snapped your neck. Actually, could've done that a long time ago, so of course I don't want you dead and if you don't listen to me, you'll end up dead. Besides, you saved my life, so I owe it to you. Please don't make me beg," that was something he never wanted to do. Then again he could just knock her out and carry her away. Actually, he might just do that if she won't listen.

"We could do this the hard way or the easy way, your choice?"

Dead? Elena gaped for a moment. "How do you know so much about this? Is it really that serious?" she asked, afraid. Afraid for herself, and the people left in that room.

If it came right down to it, she was tired. Even fully awake, she wouldn't be able to do much against Damon, even if she had almost fought off a Vampire before. "if this is some sort of joke, or one of your stupid schemes, I swear..." she trailed off.

"Yes, it is." Damon paused for a moment and then threw on a hurt look, "do you really think I would make up such a thing?" Of course, in all reality Damon wasn't someone to be trusted, at least most of the time, but with Elena he was telling the truth and even more of the time with Stefan. Sure, him and his brother had their difference, but he didn't want anything to happen to him, not that he'd always admit to that.

"What will you do if it is?" He'd really like to see that. "Guess I won't know since it's not, now come on."

Elena gave him a pointed look. "Fine, then. Let's just go." Although she for the most part did believe Damon at this point, as always when dealing with him there was the doubt, telling her not to believe him. But it was unlikely that he would let this go if the situation were as bad as he said.

She glanced back at the closed doors of the hall with a sigh, fingering the phone in her jacket pocket.

"Ok then," Damon gave her a twisted little smile and led her out of the castle. He wasn't sure yet what to do or where to go, so for now he took her back to where he had been staying. It seemed logical for the most part; the dog was never inside there so she couldn’t get sick there. He was worried about having her out too much, unless they knew for sure where and what they were doing, so for now he’d keep her inside.

This way, he said as he opened the door to the cottage called Maiden, which actually looked more like a mini castle instead of a cottage. That was exactly the reason Damon picked it, he was always used to living in big houses so why not pick the best here? He was actually surprised no one else had been living there.

Elena followed Damon across the grounds, still annoyed at the lack of answers to all her questions. The grounds looked peaceful, covered in snow. Somewhere along the way, she thought she saw faint pawprints heading towards the castle. Which probably wasn't too big of a thing - considering they were most likely in the country side, there were probably many animals about. Looking around, she jogged to catch up with Damon.

He led her to a rather large cottage on the offskirts of the grounds. She stepped inside, looking around. "Wow. You live here? How long have you been here?" Elena asked, admiring the contents of the main room.

"Of course," Damon smiled, "only the best." He shut the door. "Only a few weeks and I do have a roommate, but he doesn't seem to be in right now." Damon was a bit glad that Locke was not home at the moment.

"You didn't happen to across a dog at all, did you?"

A few weeks? Elena frowned - she'd only seen Damon a few days ago. But seeing as she'd just met someone from fifty years in the future. Maybe it wasn't that odd, but she wasn't going to dwell on it, not with the pounding headache that had sprung up on her.

"A dog? No, not that I can recall. Why?" Drained, she flopped down on the sofa.

"Just wondering..." Damon didn't want to give away too much information; he didn't want anyone learning what he really did.

"Are you ok?" He moved over to the sofa and sat down next to her, looking her over. She was probably just tired; he hoped.

"Yeah. I'm fine." Elena brushed off his concern with a small smile. "Just...really tired." she added. She didn't mention the headache. It wasn't a big deal and she didn't want him to worry. Why, she wasn't so sure.

"Been a long day. A long and strange day. Well, stranger than normal." Elena finished, glancing over at him.

"Should get some sleep then, there's a spare bedroom. Well, few actually." That's why Damon loved this little cottage.

"Should I carry you?" He joked, but was somewhat serious.
