"But why did you do it?" Scarlet asked running her fingers down the old womans jaw. "It was the only way I could be pretty back then, the tighter your face was the prettier you were. Now I suppose it all depends on how thin you are. I'm getting off topic. As I was saying there weren't such things as Botox and all that jazz back then so we just used to sew the skin on our face tight." The pink haired woman said smiling through her wrinkles. "That's horrible. Sewing your face tight... How... Just how... I don't get it." Scarlet asked slightly horrified. "Look here Kitten," the woman said pulling the skin away from her jaw bone, "see those scars, the red dots here. Now you see the scars here?" she said running her finger down her hairline. "Well you just pull the skin here," she grabbed hold of the skin around her jaw, "and put the needle through then pull it back taught like, you know, and make a stitch. Then do it all again. Do it all around your face. Your hair hides the thread and no one ever knew really." The woman said still smiling. "How could you do something like that to yourself? I don't get it. You knew you were going to be scarred for life didn't you" The old woman smiled again and sighed, "Well sweetie, back then it was all about being beautiful. You would go nowhere if you were ugly. Maybe it's the same today I don't know. But what we did isn't too different from what women are doing these days. I suppose you could say it's a less horrific because our changes didn't put things inside our bodies like those boobie-floats you see on women today." The old woman said forgetting her smile for a second. "Yeah you're right it hasn't changed much." Scarlet said with a forced smile. "What's wrong Kitten? Why did you come to me?" The old woman asked pushing her pink hair up. "I wish that things weren't this way. I wish that it didn't come down to how pretty people were." Scarlet said looking the woman in the eyes. "You're a dreamer." The woman said as she got up and hobbled over to the door.
