Supernatural NJ Convention Report - Part 1
I went to the Supernatural Convention in New Jersey on Sunday, July 10 and had a really good time with my bf. To "report" on some of the goings on...
Highlights:
1. Jared winked at me!
2. Jared was great on stage and got lots of laughs.
3. I won a trivia contest and got free Supernatural merchandise!
Jared
What can I say about Jared? He's even more attractive in person, and a totally lovable guy. Just all-around sweet, thoughtful, goofy, and funny. And HUGE! I was really nervous when I went up to get his autograph, especially since I was one of the last people up there and he had to be tired by then, so I didn't say anything to him until after he signed my TV Guide cover. And even then, all I could get out was a quiet "Thank you" and a smile. I'm not usually a shy person, but I was just so nervous, and he could totally tell. He handed me my TV Guide and said "You're welcome" before giving me a cute little smile and a wink. Jared WINKED at me! I must have turned bright red.
He was really great on stage because he gave every question, even the silly ones, some thought before answering them. One question was "The Impala embodies Dean, the Dodge Charger embodied soulless Sam, what vehicle would you say embodies you?" Jared answered, "a Chevy truck, because they're strong and dependable and I like to take my friends places." Ha! Also, someone behind us in the room took offense to the implication that Dodge Chargers are soulless XD
Someone else asked Jared: "If you were a woman what six things would you have in your purse?" He waffled for a bit, so the crowd tried to convince him that he needed to include tampons on his list, to which Jared responded, "But you don't need those every day! I've can only take six things here!" XD His 6 things were:
1. iPod
2. iPhone
3. Money
4. Tampon-shaped lipstick (killing 2 birds with 1 stone)
5. Hairspray
6. Hairbrush
Another good, light-hearted question was about his hair--apparently, since Jared started working on Supernatural the only professional to cut his hair has been the Supernatural stylist! And the one time he let his older brother (the surgeon) cut his hair, his neck got cut. Yikes! Not only was he bleeding, but his brother fell down laughing at him.
Also, not sure how many of you have seen the pic of Genevieve giving Jared a piggy-back ride (he tweeted it a while back), but apparently the way they got that pic was that Jared "climbed her" and she held him for a few seconds going "hurry! take the picture! take the picture!" I can't even imagine how she didn't rupture something... he is seriously looking even bigger than usual (muscle-wise).
Some sweet things that happened: (1) a fan (from Australia, I think) thanked Jared profusely for his work on the show and for caring enough to come to conventions when he could be spending more time with his family/friends instead. She mentioned that a lot of people are going through hard times now and that the show really helps people by giving them something to enjoy, etc. Jared seriously started to choke up while she was talking--it was so cute. And then she gave him a bag that had a few presents/gifts for him. Awwwwwwww... (2) a fan presented him with a birthday card (since his 29th bday is coming up), and it was signed by a HUUUUGE number of people from the convention. He said he'd hang it in his trailer since he's going to be working on his bday and that he'd tweet a picture of it.
Trivia Contest
I was totally ready for them to announce the trivia contest. The second he asked for "3 Supernatural experts," I had my hand in the air. The MC actually said "Okay, that girl in the glasses who was the first one to raise her hand? Get up here." Hee! Of course, the minute I was up on the stage, I was regretting my decision to put myself on the line. I was just waiting for someone to ask me the name of the first assistant director or something equally ridiculous. Thankfully, the questions were thoughtful and, as someone who's watched Seasons 1-3 three times and Seasons 4 and 5 twice now, I was able to answer them with the help of two other "experts" (shout out to starless-eyes55)!
The questions (and answers) were:
1. In "The French Mistake" what 2 pictures were on Jared's mantel?
(1) A wedding picture of Jared and Genevieve, and (2) a picture of their pet Alpaca.
2. In "In My Time of Dying," why was "Tessa" in the hospital?
She told Dean she was in the hospital for an appendectomy, and that something went wrong.
3. In "Time Is On My Side," How did Rufus track down Bela's identity?
He sent a picture of her ear to a friend of his in law enforcement. "Ear prints" are distinct and used in the United Kingdom to identify people.
4. In "It's a Terrible Life," what bobblehead figure did Sam have on his desk?
Dracula.
5. In Season 1, there are two episodes where Sam drives the Impala. What were they?
The pilot, when Dean is in jail, and the season finale (Devil's Trap), when Dean is unconscious because of Azazel's attack. Sam is driving him and John when a demon driving an 18-wheeler crashes into the Impala, crushing it.
We totally got all 5 of the questions they asked us right, so all 3 of us won $100 worth of Supernatural merchandise. AWESOME. I got a lot of cool stuff :)
