[Mayday] Oh, sit down already, we don't bite weirdweb September 11 2006, 17:02:47 UTC
Isabel looked like a frightened rabbit, and May sighed and scooted over for her to sit down - next to her and not right next to where Aiden had been sitting. The need to avoid the blonde had evaporated over the course of the day; she'd worked out most of her animosity breaking the speed record in escaping the smoke monster and then in the last perimeter sweep.

All afternoon, a small part of her had been constantly reminding her of Normie, and Brenda, and how she'd forgiven them - and Normie had tried to kill her parents. Granted, he'd been severely messed up by his grandfather and spent every day since then trying to make things right, but - if she could forgive him, she could be civil to Isabel.

Besides, it was way too late at night to instigate hostilities. Seriously. She just wanted to enjoy the relative quiet while it lasted and she hadn't jinxed it yet.

She addressed Rodney, wanting to take the attention off of Isabel. "Hot chocolate AND coffee? At this rate, we ought to hook you up with a caffeine IV drip," she said, hoping her smile made it clear she was joking. "There's some mini-marshmallows out, too, if that's your style."

Isabel's entrance brought Rodney's attention around to the door, and his expression fell to an unhappy scowl. Yet another who enjoyed threatening him for no other reason but they could. Still, he nodded and turned around once more to look into the cupboard. He pulled the door open, rooted around a little, digging through. "Tea... su-- Ah!" Victory sounded in his voice.

Rodney turned around again, though this time to address the woman who hadn't -yet- turned on him, his tones overtly polite and enunciated. See? A woman who actually was nice to him. "Yes, well... I don't get chocolate very often. Coffee, well, that's a necessity. I still have more wo-- Did you say marshmallows? Yes, yes, thank you." He takes a step forward before he snaps his fingers and twists around. "Coffee." Focus, Rodney... He'd forgotten to finish making it before getting sidetracked. "Right." Only the adding of water was left to be done there, thankfully, so once that was done, the machine was turned on, the liquid flowing into the carafe with the soft sound of *burble*. Apparently he was going for both.

Isabel smiled gratefully at May as she made room for her, then looked wearily at Sam.

"I don't really know what to do with myself," she admitted. "I'm exhausted, but I don't know if I could sleep." She wondered if she should tell them why she didn't much feel like trying to sleep - worry about Jesse and the others, worry about Claire... she should make sure they knew she was concerned about the woman with an uncanny resemblance to Tess though.

"How- how is Claire?" she asked, stumbling over the question quite unexpectedly. She sensed more eyes on her immediately.

Aiden smirked over her mug. So Isabel couldn't sleep, guilt would do that to a girl. It was a good thing too. Guilt keeps people from continuing down the wrong road.

"Safely tucked away from you for starts. Other then that it's going to be a waiting game with that baby. It'll be awhile for we know if what you did caused any damage."

It was not Aiden's job to sugar coat things. The reality is if Claire went into premature labor (Aiden really didn't know the details) because of what Isabel did it could suffer a whole host of problems that facilities in this hell hole wouldn't allow them to correct. Aiden wanted to make damn sure Isabel understood the gravity of that, so that next time she'd think before she'd act.

[McKay] From orbit! lost_mckay September 11 2006, 22:43:47 UTC
A pot was found sitting where it was supposed to be, right on the stove top, and while the coffee brewed, giving it's soft music to the room, Rodney took up the pot and refilled it with water and placed it back, turning on the heat. Next, a mug was produced, one that he's practically claimed as his own, as he now was rarely without it or his laptop.

To hear the question, and the answer-- Wow. Now, the astrophysicist was no people person, at all, and in order to see any measure of contention it must be visible from orbit. Atlantis control, this is McKay. We have a real problem here... and he couldn't help but smirk rather smugly. Seems blondie has a problem making new friends? So he's not the only one?

McKay whistles softly and turns to lean on the cabinet, in front of the coffee pot. Even he hasn't done that. "Wow. Way to go, blondie."

Well, so much for that plan. May resisted the urge to groan and roll her eyes. Just like that, they'd gone from peaceful camaraderie to a hostile silence. Isabel seemed to shrink even more into herself, if that was possible. Great.

Aiden's smirk didn't help either. May had no desire to sugarcoat things, or coddle the other woman, but she had no stomach for a round of condemnation right now. It was too late, and it had been too long of a day already. Changing the subject wouldn't work, so it was time to focus on what was important - Claire's condition, not how it happened.

"More importantly," she added, "how is Claire doing?" She directed her question at Daniel, the most likely to know what was going on.

Daniel frowned Aiden before replying. "Claire is fine. She's still in the beginning stages of labor." He turned to Isabel. "You've been nothing but helpful since this morning. Keep that up and I'm sure everyone will let bygones be bygones." However tempting, Daniel resisted the urge to look pointedly at Aiden.

"Hey, she threatened me earlier. How about an apology for that too, huh?" McKay wasn't about to let that go quite yet. Normally, he didn't let things lie festering, but since coming to the island, he's been pulled up by the shirt and pushed down, cursed at, and threatened, and he's had enough. He's been pulling his weight, and then some, but just because he had no particular ability, other than a smattering of Ancient gene that he required for work and the fact that he was a brilliant scientist (one of the most in the world, so said the Pentagon), he'd been a toy to the others. "Not helpful."

Muttering a few choice curses to himself in Sumerian, Daniel pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath. After he'd mustered as much diplomatic calm as he could at the late, sleep-deprived hour he faced Isabel. "You threatened Dr. McKay?" It was a simple, straightforward question.

[McKay] Never mind. There's wraith! -- EXIT MCKAY lost_mckay September 12 2006, 03:03:55 UTC
Petty, maybe, but after a while, even Rodney couldn't take it anymore. These people weren't his friends. Heck, he'd only known a good many of them for, well, 20 or so days, only one or two others he'd known longer. That gets into the years mark.

McKay brought up his hand, holding his mug as the carafe was certainly filled by now, and turned around to pour the coffee when he'd heard it. A large sound, a *boom* sound very much like a sonic wave... then silence... then...

The mug was dropped, crashing into pieces on the floor as his expression likewise fell, his visage paling. He licked suddenly dry lips as he turned around again, his head shaking. The *whine* of a thousand insects overhead, the sound was ingrained in his head. "No. Nononononono..."

Wraith. Vampires with insatiable thirst not for blood, but the very essence of life. Sucked from chests by their hands, leaving nothing behind but a lifeless husk of their victim, aged beyond their lifespan, and a little blood on the Wraith's hand. To be licked off. His city was gone. He'd failed. The thoughts ran through his mind, each a complete picture, as broad and vivid as the next. The attempts on Sheppard's life, the attempts on his... on his city in the ocean. Plato's Atlantis. He'd failed. Radek couldn't do the job, and neither could Lindstrom. And now, Earth was doomed as there could be thousands up there in orbit, in many, many hive ships. They got their new feeding ground.

"Wraith." The word was whispered by a now terrified McKay. "One dart... maybe. I don't know." As he offered some explanation, he began to make his way out of the room at a run, leaving behind the shattered mug. Even if he wasn't armed, he's headed for the door to the outside regardless, even if he was the only one who knew more than anyone else about this particular breed of alien. "We're dead if they're not."

[Quentin] What's a Wraith? rwarner September 12 2006, 03:20:58 UTC
Quentin had been only half listening to the conversation as he devoured the soup that he'd reheated. He ate as if he hadn't eaten for weeks, and that was exactly how he felt. Something had used up an awful lot of his body's energy stores.

Having emptied his bowl, Quentin stood up to refill it again when he heard the sound of breaking glass come from the area of the coffee pot. Rodney was standing there with an absolute look of terror on his face. The usually unflappable scientist's mouth worked, and Quentin could hear the man's whispered words clearly, "Wraith. One dart...maybe. I don't know."

With that, McKay ran out of the room. Quentin turned to the others and asked, "So, does anyone here know what he meant by "Wraith"? Please tell me it isn't what I think it is, because I don't think I could deal with faceless ghost-men riding dark phantom horses right about now."

Aiden jumped and turned at the sound of the shattering mug. She watched McKay run out of the room.

"Hell if I know." she got up and went for a towel and started to clean up the mess McKay'd left behind. "And given the way this night's going I don't think I want to."

[Mayday] I don't know, but I'm going to find out... weirdweb September 12 2006, 03:42:20 UTC
As Rodney bolted for the door, May suddenly felt it. One second everything was fine, and then... Crap. It was outside. Right where Rodney was headed.

She abandoned her hot chocolate and jumped to her feet, ignoring Daniel's yell as she bolted for the door after Rodney. The scientist was unarmed, terrified, and yet he was running TOWARDS the source of the danger. Either he was crazy, or there was something out there bad enough to override his self-preservation.

Whatever it was, she wasn't letting him run into trouble alone.

Isabel sighed and scowled at Daniel.

"I didn't threaten him," she said. "He was hitting on me and I deterred him. I used my powers to clean a soup bowl in front of him. Nothing more. He was treating me like a... thing."

She had no sooner said this than McKay dropped his mug, muttered something about a Wraith, and ran for the door. Isabel looked around. Everyone looked confused - except Daniel. Daniel looked worried.

"What's a-" she began, but then something whispered in her mind, hunger, pain, hatred, confusion... she looked up, as if she could see through the bunker and the solid earth above them to the surface where these... whatever they were... were. She knew there were more than one. Their voices sounded different.

Oh God, oh God, oh God... she'd never picked up on stray thoughts like this. They had to be being projected. This island was one weird telepathy experience after another.

She stood up, knocking her chair over in her haste.

"I- there's-" she couldn't get the words out, looked at the others, and followed McKay. He at least seemed to have some idea what was going on.

[Sam] Wraith? With sonic booms? (tag Daniel) starborn_scribe September 12 2006, 13:51:05 UTC
Between McKay's and Isabel's terror-stricken exits with May on their heels, a sonic boom, and the urgency of Blaise's voice sounding from Daniel's radio, Sam was on his feet, weapon drawn and ready. Daniel's eyes were wide. His lips were pressed into a thin line.

Despite his first instinct to find Dean and grab the weapons bag, Sam knew that he needed to know more about these wraiths. "Daniel, what are these things? How do you kill them?" The steadiness of his voice surprised him.

[Daniel] Bringing a Plan Together fikgirl September 12 2006, 17:16:31 UTC
"Fuck," Daniel swore in English then followed up much more colorfully in a wide variety of languages. His first thought had been, (There's no way for Wraith to be here,) which was followed by (Of course there is.)

He didn't react quickly enough to stop Rodney - who evidently forgot that he wasn't armed, nor was he a soldier - to go running out the door, with Isabel the clueless desposed supposedly alien princess on his heels. May followed quickly as well, and though Daniel knew she meant well, he wasn't sure how clinging to the canopy would help Rodney, and those Wraith energy weapons could shoot into the air as well as they could on the ground.

Daniel quickly skimmed the room and the lack of armed people present. Blaise was on the perimeter, Kenzaki was standing guard, Jon was in the control room and impatiently demanding answers in the background.

"Wraith," Daniel explained to Sam quickly as he began to sort through various scenarios and plans. He didn't particularly like any of them. Though Daniel had never had the pleasure of dealing with the Wraith, with his imminent trip to Atlantis, he'd read all the mission reports. They had to find a way to stop the Wraith here and now; there were far too many people on the island that would provide a nice round snack. If they didn't stop them, whenever that time bubble came down, there would be Wraith waiting on an unsuspecting public.

"Alien. Hostile. Regenerative. Hard to kill. Feeds on the life force of humans. Carry energy weapons that stun on first shot." Daniel explained as quickly and accurately as he could. He didn't want to sugar coat it, and there didn't seem to be anyway to explain them that didn't break confidentiality, but there were lives at stake. While he talked, he walked to the intercom and buzzed the control room, bringing Jon in on the conversation. "I need everyone who can use a weapon to take guard of all the doors. We have injured here and we cannot leave them unprotected.

"McKay, Isabel, and May are outside and need to be retrieved with all due haste. We need McKay on the inside, and fighting power on the outside. I want everyone, and I mean everyone who can aim and fire a weapon, armed from the weapons here. Jon, you're the closest to the weapons, distribute them."

His mind began running through scenarios. For protection because evacuation would be pointless.
