Awaiting the Bookes

Aug 02, 2010 17:04

I'm pretty sure no one, apart from Lau..fei, has been reading my entries so far. But this account is great at keeping up with the developments of our Merlin facfic. Last Saturday, Laufei and I met for updates and have decided on a few major things.

 ♥ RELEASE DATE (yeah!) --- August 11, a Wednesday.
......... We just received word that Merlin BBC season 3's first episode will be broadcasted on the 18th of SEPTEMBER, 2010. Due to the content of the fics, we felt that we needed to push our own release date prior to S3.ep01, from summer of 2011. This is really a big push for us so we might only have BOOKE 1: CINDER posted. Even though we are absolutely pressed for time, we will try our hardest to come up with a clean output. Admittedly, this is going to take a lot of sacrifice from us. But I do believe that we can do this sh*t!!!

♥ VERY IMPORTANT SPELLINGS
......... We've decided, and Laufei has started using this for Cinder's second draft, that: magic is magick and book is booke. The later word is crucial because...

♥ SERIES TITLE --- The Bookes of Tales, Possibly with Faeries Involved
......... I am a great big fan of Terry Pratchett (pre-Colin Morgan, and possibly before time itself). My writing style was and forever will be influenced by the Discworld series. Hence, our title is such.

♥ UNIVERSAL PROLOGUE --- as a separate entity.
......... Cinder started with a bit of cuttingly beautiful lyrical prose, something along the lines of angst, which Laufei is completely adept at. This left little space for my "crack" narrative, as carried by the Prologue (rather, Cinder's ex-Prologue). But do not fear, we have found a place for the Prologue. It has now been elevated into the realms of Universal Prologue for the entire series. It stands in the introduction page where links to the rest of the Bookes will be set-up, and if all goes well, click-able.

♥ MY BELOVED BETA READERS! --- have arrived from a far off place
......... Okies, it goes like this. We have three beta-readers, one for grammar, and two for flow, accuracy, etc. Laufei and I have spoken to reader 1 (also my writing coach), while I've spoken to reader 2 (a friend who missed two of the last eps of S2). Today, I'm stalking reader 3, the girl who held my hand through the subtext, the Monarch-on-Troll action, the girl I held while Gaius gets some bad treatemt, and the girl who lit my ciggy for "first battle wound". Wish me luck!

♥ MY WRITING COACH --- words of advice
......... Earlier today, I sought out a "friend" who's been in fandom for a really long time. She stopped writing a long time ago and has since restricted herself to photo manips of her fave Supernatural pairing. We talked about my writing and how to make it more effective. My "crack" writing style will never change but my characterization has room for improvement. Apparently, I've to go back to all Merlin season 1 and 2 vids, have a study on Merlin's character, possibly a study on Colin Morgan's acting (taking note of mannerisms, choice of words, reactions, abilities, etc.), and plan out my conversations better.
Crosslamellar : Woah
Writing Coach : Yeah...
Crossedlamellar : What?! All that!
Writing Coach : Yeah. That's why I stopped writing.
Crossedlamellar : Eh?
Writing Coach : I didn't have the time to do proper research. At least Laufei will take care of historical accuracy issues *rolls eyes at me --- for my lack of effort*
Crossedlamellar : So... I've to work harder 'coz I'm crap right now. And I only have two weeks to do it?
Writing Coach : ... erm... yeah... erm, sorry *hugs --- metaphorically*

♥  I'M SCREWED --- yes :-(

update, tbot
