Author's Notes: Sorry for the tres lame titles.
The silence that had fallen in the staff meeting room had been caused mainly by Daniel finally exploding at the team for taking the piss out of him again. He was generally quite easy-going but this last round of teasing had ramped up to practical joking, which he loathed.
Sam Carter had been the one to apologise first before the men took their turns. The silence had fallen after the apologies and now they found themselves wanting something to do. They had nothing to do yet and it was clearly getting to them. The silence was broken by a warning peel from the alarms, the team mostly stayed up in the glass box but Sam made for the door, waiting in the official holding area. She wore her short cropped blonde hair neat and her blue eyes seemed soft as she waited.
The gate opened and a rather dazed woman stumbled through. The staff mostly laughed at both Daniel and Sam’s reactions. Sam caught the woman as she seemed to collapse backwards, Daniel murmuring something highly unprofessional.
The medical team arrived as Sam lowered the fallen stranger onto a stretcher, checking for breaks and damages before she removed the woman’s space-helmet, revealing messily tied curled copper hair and pale skin. She was clearly human, and hurt. The rest of the team watched on as Sam seemed to take control of the situation, taking the woman’s hand in her own, squeezing it softly as she stroked the woman’s hair from her eyes with the other.
The woman’s eyes opened slowly and Sam smiled. “Hey… you know where you are?”
“Haven’t a clue…”
“That’s not good start miss…” Sam sighed. “How about a date or a name?”
“Date, I don’t know.” River confirmed slowly, watching the other woman carefully, her blue-green eyes focused tightly on her. “My name’s River, River Song, Archaeologist…”
Sam sighed softly. “Damn, not another one.” She teased.
“Oh great, I got stuck with a wise-ass.” River shot back.
“Oh, low blow Song…” Sam smiled. “You okay to stand up now?”
“Don’t think so…”
“You want me to carry you?” Sam deadpanned, smiling just a little when River sighed and agreed. “Alright.” She made to pick the woman up, speaking softly. “You’re a feather compared to carrying one of these guys…”
