There's nothing like the view from the cheap seats

I attended the Drillers opening day last night. What a game. The starting pitching matchup was as big of amismatch as i predicted. The Drillers starter was Ulloa who isn't any good but is the lone veteran on the staff so he got the opening nod. The wranglers starting pitcher was suprisingly Mark Redman who is on a rehab stint. Ulloa didn't fool anyone with his fastball right down the middle but redman scolled everyone with *gasp* off=speed pitches. Ian Stewart got fooled so badly. Ulloa wasn't helped by an error in the first inning.

There were runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the first with 2 outs. The batter popped the ball up about 10 feet in front of home plate. The wind was still swirling due to the tornadic activity in the area but ulloa did everything he could to fuck iannetta up so he missed it. Rather than covering home plate, ulloa just stood there scratchig his balls while the guy from second base!!!! came all around to score. Dan Conway would have beat the shit out of ulloa right there on the spot. I miss Dan.

Anyway, it was 8 to 3 going into the bottom of the 9th just as I figured. The wranglers lineup is loaded. Gordon and butler might be 2 of the top 10 hitters in all of minor league baseball and the drillers really lack a strong veteran leader such as conway, slavik, pinella, or a host of other journeymen who have helped the drillers in the last 2 years. I figured that the players had let the hype get to their heads. But then...the drillers scored 5 in the 9th to tie it up. It was an amazing comeback. We wound up winning in 16 innings. I left after 12 but I stayed up to listen to it. Great game. Go Drillers!!!!
