24 Hours of Happy (4AM)

Mar 17, 2014 23:50

Oh gawd, the horror that was 4AM.

I had a feeling they would have trouble at 4AM, if only because very few people remain awake at that hour. It's worse than 3AM, because even the hardcore party-goers go home at 3AM (note that they had a few kids early at the 3AM hour).

However, with Pharrell Williams returning outdoors after several videos indoors in a row, I thought there would be something interesting, if a little kooky, and the hour started off that way. We had some weird guys, a guy who looked like a late-night shift worker, a lady who had a fun video that used a lot of level shifting, going up and down...

... And then came the car. I thought the motorcycles were bad, but the camera team shifted to this convertible, and they did not let go for SEVEN takes! SEVEN! The last take, and the end of the 3rd were fine, but the rest was unnecessary and just repetitive. Surely they could have found six people who were willing to do a 4AM shoot! Lord knows I would have!

The sky and the scenery mercifully shifted to somewhere far away from the city center, in the hills behind LA. There were a few women and one guy who ended the video (the guy was cute, and had the other good video that hour), but I was so drained from the car, the scenery simply came too late.

We'll see where the hills take us for the 5AM hour, but oh man, I can only recommend this hour if you skip the entire car scene!

PS - There was a second small cameo during the maid's dance section, where one of the previous dancers accidentally ran into the camera's focus. It was really quick, but counts as the official second cameo of a dancer popping into someone else's video.
