The Guthrie

Tonight was fabulous. The Guthrie is amazing. And I am now small part of it - oh my heart, I'm so excited. I had my orientation session to be a volunteer usher at the Guthrie. I am so looking forward to my first night, and I know I'll be completely nervous cuz I'm just an idiot like that. There were some tour guides-in-training there trying to finally master their scripts, so I got to be a guinea pig for one girl. She took me and just one other person all over the theatre! I was backstage, in the scene shop, the costume shop, the props room, the actor's lounge - which, by the way, is not a green room but just a nook with couches and a mini kitchen in the hallway. I stood in front of the doors that lead onto the Wurtele stage from backstage - the doors weigh 6.5 tons together.
I was - I don't know - just in awe the whole time, and so unbelieveably eager and excited. I can't even describe the something that comes alive when I'm surrounded by a place so full of greatness and possibility. Any theatre is like that for me, but the Guthrie - it was just so awesome. There are pictures of past productions all over the place, and the architecture of the building is fascinatingly original.
Friday will be my first night of ushering, and Sunday evening volunteers are invited to attend the dress rehearsal of The Christmas Carol. Be still my heart...
I am just a bit star-struck, I know, but it's more than that. I am so happy to be able to participate in a theatre, to add to the audiences experience even if it's just to show them where to sit. I just love theatre...so much.

(Sigh)
