A few things I learned today

My cousin's wedding was today (Yay!) and I must say I learned or at least committed to memory many things. It was a wonderful day but she just had several annoyances that might have been avoidable.

Let's try this old lj-cut function because this is gonna be a long one...

1. No Stargazer lilies for me. The florist had plucked out all the pollen polups but must have missed one because M ended up with a big red dot right on the top and middle of her dress with about 30 minutes to go before the ceremony. We tried Shout wipes, Tide bleach pen...everything! It wouldn't come out because the stain had soaked into the several layers of her dress so we ended up using white out, if you can believe that, to fix it. You couldn't really tell but I'd rather not fuss with them.

2. Say goodbyes and then leave. There are tons of people to help break down the site and nobody in a wedding gown needs to be boxing anything up.

3. A woman has to breathe! Both M and I got a bit sick because our dresses were too constricting. Luckily her dress had lacing on the back so we could losen it but I was feeling awful all night :( And no more spandex "gut sucker-inner" either! Every time I've worn it I end up feeling sick so I guess I'll just have to get more serious about my eating habits and workout routines rather than rely on the gut tube to keep me in my dress. :)

4. A woman has to eat! We all ate lunch but after running around all afternoon were starved by the time the wedding actually started at 4:30. Put a bib on me, I'm eating something right before the ceremony. I think this hunger factor was also a contributor the nausea later on.

5. Be very specific with the DJ. M had the same DJ we're using - I was not impressed. He has very specific ideas about how a wedding reception "should" go and I tend to disagree. He is definitely one we will have to reign in.

6. Damn the cute shoes - comfort takes the cake. After tonight I am seriously considering wearing slippers the whole time and not worrying about our vast height difference. I sometimes like wearing heals because it feels fun and dressy but I hate walking in them and I want to be able to get around easily at our wedding.

7. Get a hair trial. I was going to forget this step but I've changed my mind. Today's hair was OK but I would have been upset if it had turned out like this for my wedding. I'm back on the lookout for a new 'do. The one I had hoped to use calls for longer hair than I am willing to accomodate.

8. Keep other people's stuff out of the couple's cars. M and her husband spent so much time after the reception sorting out their stuff and other people's stuff that they had a hard time getting away. I want to just hop in the car and goooooo!! :)

9. I need to find a way to be able to hear the prelude music at our wedding. My "holding cell" is kind way up a hill and inside a building overlooking the ceremony site so I won't be within earshot. Maybe a baby monitor would work? I think it would be very calming for me to hear and know things are going forward.

10. Inform everyone that wallflowers will not be tolerated at the reception :) Dance dance dance! :) :)

11. Do my own makeup - definitely. I might go to a makeup counter and get some tips to help liven up my regular look.

12. It really does go by sooooooo fast! This reminds me to keep two things in mind - To be comfortable and happy and enjoy the hell out of the day and to remember that it is only one day. The marriage is what counts.

I was going to sent out our invites today but didn't get a chance to before I needed to get to my hair apt. So they go out Monday morning now!!! :) Woo hoo!!

I think I'm going to make a full switch to LJ from WC so I'll also probably switch this journal to friends only too. Let me know if you want to be "friended". The more the merrier :)

I've been absent from the internet journal lately because I've been out of town a lot but I'm anxious to get back into it. I'll post more again soon when I'm more awake. (wanted to get these thoughts down before I slept them all out of my brain.)

Goodnight!
