They were supposed to reprocess landfills. I don’t know how they got into my own body, and I don’t know how they rebuilt me from the ground up. But clearly, they weren’t satisfied with landfills, and they didn’t want to do all the work themselves. Because now, I’m able to eat anything… literally anything: stone, steel, plastic, flesh.

The tiny masters in my bloodstream are voracious, though. They use the carrot: It all tastes like candy. They use the stick: I feel hungry every moment of every day.

I think I’m going to be really, profoundly sick very soon now.
