A DITFT Challenge - The Fireshield Legacy

Author's note : Hey guys, here's the chapter that I pretty much gave up on after I fucked it up twice ... yeah ...
But here it is as proof that I never gave up ... just prolonged :P
I really like this chapter (I can't understand why it stands out above the others for me, but it does :P) so I hope you like it too :)
Enjoy mes amis !

Coral's visit was a surprise to me. She arrived at eleven o'clock at night and I hadn't been expecting her. I didn't even recognise her. She changed a lot in the two years since I last saw her.
"I heard you got engaged, and I know that that's a lot and all ..."

"But, like, you said that you always had room for me to move in with you, right ?"
"Sure, Coral. I'd love to have you stay, we have plenty of room here."

"Really ? Are you sure ?"
"Yeah, I told you that you could come here whenever you wanted."

"Oh. My. God ! I love you ! You are the best big brother in the world !"
I missed Coral's atmosphere. She was always so bubbly and happy and now she lived with me and my family.

We had a spare room and it was perfect for Coral to live in.

And I told Coral that if she was going to live here, she was going to carry her weight by getting a job. She took up a job in the local dance studio as a ballet coach since that's what Coral does best.

" I don't think I've actually ever had a conversation with you before, I'm Coral, Cyprus' sister."
"I'm Mia, the soon to be Mrs. Cyprus Fireshield."

"So I'm sure that Cyprus told you that I was moving in ?"
"He did and I'm so happy to have you in our home, Coral."

"So what's with the medical systems these days ?"
"I have no idea !"

Coral soon met her nephew, Hero, and made sure that he knew who his 'cool Aunt Coral' was.

And soon he was asking for his 'cool Aunt Coral' to help him with everything. 'Cool Aunt Coral' this and 'cool Aunt Coral' that.

She also met Wednesday. She doted over her and proclaimed that she wanted a baby like her someday since she was so small and cute. That was until Wednesday started crying and she was thrusted back into Mia's arms.

Seeing Coral after so long reminded me that I hadn't seen Cal or Cassio in even longer.
I checked in with Cal first. Him and Alice had tied the knot after Alice discovered that she was pregnant in her third year of college. I told Cal that it was a bad idea to be in the same dorm. But the surprise pregnancy resulted in twins, a boy and girl, Angelo and Naya. Of course, Alice doesn't have a diploma so she now poses as a full-time mother while Cal works as a writer for the local newspaper.

Cassio on the other hand was a different story. Her and Drake had gotten engaged before going to college, graduated and had a little girl, Mariana. Then one day she caught Drake cheating on her with a woman she'd never met. They'd been cheating since his second year in college. Cassio and Drake were divorced soon after but Drake visits every so often for Mariana's sake.

Coral was a world of help for the next three and a half years. She took care of Hero and Wednesday every day until she has to go to work and the kids are passed on to the nanny.

She cared for Hero until he could fend for himself in school and then focused on Wednesday. She told me that if I won't spend time with my kids, she will.

And now that Hero was old enough, she decided to teach him right from wrong and the consequences of those choices. My kids are in good hands with their aunt.

Hero became an overachiever almost overnight. He played violin every day without fail and he has an A+ report card to flash. I wasn't going to put this to waste.

I pulled some strings and arranged for the headmaster of our local private school to visit our home. I cooked lobster thermidor and gave him a tour of our house. He concluded that we were up to the standards of their educational facility and then left.

And Hero was then in the upper-class, just like his father.

Coral seems to think that Wednesday will be musical too but learning a nursery rhyme doesn't count as musical in my eyes.

"I ... almost ... have it ..."

"I told you I'd get it !"
Wednesday had grown up amazingly. She matched up to her brother's standards but I didn't have another chance to pull the same strings and so she had to settle for a normal school.
Coral was right, Wednesday did grow up to be musical. She was a pianist like her grandmother, Yasmin.

The church was beautiful and it was a lovely day for a wedding. Mia had been planning this for months and the day had finally arrived. We'd agreed that we would wait until the kids were old enough to stand by themselves next to us as we said our vows. She wanted Wednesday to be the flower girl and Hero to be the ring boy.

We were both nervous standing at the alter waiting to start the ceremony.

We invited my whole family, even my parents. Cal and Alice couldn't show up because they were away on their holidays but Cassio and Drake showed up with my parents.

And Mia invited a couple of her friends. Her family couldn't make it, her father was in hospital and her mother was taking care of him.

But then the ceremony began. I took the ring and said my vows.
"I, Cypus Fireshild, take you, Mia Chow to be my wife. Forever and always till the end of time."

And put the ring on her finger.

And she put her ring on my finger.

And we were Mr. and Mrs. Fireshield. Another Fireshield added to the clan.

"Mommy and Daddy are married !"

"Woop ! Woop !"
The kids were ecstatic about the whole thing and when the church erupted in clapping, they buzzed off the atmosphere.

"Why hello there, Mrs. Fireshield."

"Ha ha. Good evening Mr. Fireshield."

"Your parents are leaving, you going to say goodbye ?"
"No, I'll leave them to slink away from the after party."

We let Wednesday play the church's piano for a while before we had to leave.
"She's going to get an award one day, I just know it."

The piano music seemed so appropriate for our first dance.
"Would you do me the honour in giving me this dance m'lady ?"

"Well, sir, I am a woman of class and I don't dance with just anybody."

"But I guess I can dance with you."

Our dance was so tranquil. We forgot that there was a church full of people watching us and just stared at each other as we swayed with each other.

"You know what newlyweds do the night after getting married don't you ?"

"I hope you're not tired."
"You're a minx, you know that ?"

But she was my minx.

~          ~          ~

"Ewww ! Get a room !"

"I'll say the same to you when you're kissing your wife on the alter."

*          *          *

"Do you think I have many wrinkles ?"
"You're only thirty-two, love. You don't have a single wrinkle on your face."

"You sure ?"
"Yes I'm sure, now get yourself in here."

"Am I pretty ?"
"I think you'd look prettier on the bed with me."

"Hmm ... I don't know, I think I like standing here ..."
"Do you want me to beg ? Are you into taht or something ?"
"Oh, okay, I don't want you to beg."

"Do I tidy up good ?"
"Almost too good if you ask me."
"Shut up, you love it."

"Finally, I have the Mrs. Fireshield tied down to keep ! How long does this last ?"

"Treat me nicely and I might give you a discount on the day to day price."
"Lucky me."

Now that I was high up in the sposrts field, the team felt obliged to give me a punching bag as a gift. It was just another work-out Tuesday for me in my office.

But when I came inside the house, Coral was crying on the sofa.

"Coral ? What's wrong ?"
"I don't want to talk about it ! Go away !"
I wasn't going to leave it at that though.

"Fine, I'll just sit here until you do tell me."

"... I'm pregnant."

"What ?!"
"I knew you'd react like that !"

"Coral, what happened ? Who is it ? How did you let this happen ?"

"This is so typical of you ..."

"Just tell me what happened."
"Okay."

And she did. I sat and listened to Coral tell me the story for two hours. She had been out with her friends at a bar when she met a guy, Alex. She ended up getting drunk and going home with him. She was too drunk to remember protection and now she was in this mess.

A few days later I found Coral sitting in front of Hero's old crib. She just sat there on the floor. I guess she was just accepting the future.

But she didn't eat. I would serve her food and she would sit with her head on the table for the whole night without touching the food.

I had to talk to her.
"Coral, we can do something ... else about the baby, you know ?"

"Cyprus, I'm not willing to do that. It's ... wrong ..."
"I'm just telling you your options, Coral."

She closed her eyes tight and sighed.
"Cyprus ... I'm keeping the baby."

Thank mother devine Mary that this chapter came out okay. I swear, I checked every two seconds to make sure that the writing was where it was supposed to be under every picture ...
So what do you think ? Did you like it as much as me ? The wedding was really fun to shoot since I made the church and the whole family just sort of turned up without me having to even manouvre it all :P
Did anyone else just start singing 'Papa don't preach' when they saw that last line from Coral ? I did xD
I've actually played up until the kids are teens ... oops ... It's just that I want to stick to my promise about having this generation plotted out and reaching six chapters and I think I'm getting better at it, am I ? I hope so :P
Jeez, I must be boring you to death :P
Please comment as it means the world to me when I see an inbox with 15 messages and to find that they are actually comments and not userpic updates :P
