minor bit of geekiness
I ordered a second cradle for my palmtop about two weeks ago, and it finally came in today. When you're used to resellers that routinely drop-ship parts and equipment to you overnight, waiting two weeks for an accessory seems almost glacial, but no matter.
I've spent the better part of the last half hour synchronizing the data between my office PC and my palmtop. Yes, I want Bridget's new phone number to replace the old one on the PDA -- No, I do not want you to download that vendor's contact info. Actually I should probably throw that one out. They were assholes anyway.
So, in the midst of all of this reconfiguring, I'm reminded of a minor bit of geekiness that might be useful to some of you that travel around with Palm Pilots, Visors and Pocket PCs. A few months ago, I wrote up a text-only friends style that's compatible with Avantgo. So, if you use Avantgo to carry around copies of Salon, The New York Times and Plastic, you can now also use it for your friends list.
Just create a custom channel and pipe this into the Location field:

set your max channel to about 200K, and use a link depth of 1 if you want to be able to read comments. Comments look like ass, since it isn't styled, but hey, that just means we have to wait around 'til S2. Whenever that might be.
