i was kind of amused by the implication of ... "well, this is the standard that we insist on, but we're willing to make an exception if you want bragging rights."

Huh... I thought that they recognized dual citizenship over there. Maybe it's just the ride organizers?

I think it's just an organizer thing. They want to able to compile statistics saying x # of Americans participated, y # of Germans, z # of Australians, etc. And they wouldn't want to deal with, say, how do we categorize Egyptian-born British citizens who currently live in France?

That's understandable.

Of course, your post more reminded me that I need to go and get my Canadian passport sooner rather than later (as I've already got the US one). :P

Mabuhay! I need to get my Canadian passport, too. They still need to be countersigned by a guarantor, which has been a bit of a stumbling block....

if you can wait until October, the guarantor policy becomes a lot more lenient (and, imho, much more sane) ... basically, after October any Canadian with a passport who's known you for more than two years can be your guarantor.

Canada's sending something like sixty or seventy riders to Paris. They can spare a couple of representatives.

I'm considering getting a flag patch to sew on the saddlebag for the bike, but need to track down a Filipino grocery that isn't in freakin' Connecticut.

I'll be in CT for Black Sun this weekend, tell me where a Filipino grocer is and I'll get you one.

aww ... thanks. According to this list there's a place in Bethel and another in Norwich. Those might have something, but I can't say for sure as I haven't been.

It also looks like there's another place in Quincy called Sure Pinoy Oriental Mart (... man, I want to see some American expat grocery in Beijing called Totally Yankee Western Mall ...) Let me try that place and if I can't find something, I'll get back to you.
