Yesterday was a complete surprise. I had no idea. At 6:15 my alarm went off so I got up and jumped in the shower, cursing Don Martin the entire time for making us have to go to school. I had to hurry because I hadn't studied enough for my US History test. I was going to fail I just knew it. I hurriedly threw some clothes on and started studying. Ok, Reconstruction, reconstruction, there is Presidential and then Congressional which later becomes Military Reconstruction in 1866? 1867? Oh I can't remember. Hierl was going to kill me. Booker T Washington vs. Dubois, Atlanta Compromise vs. Niagara Movement, ok what do they mean again? I can't remember! And then my dad called up the stairs. "Susan", he said. All I could say was "Yeah, dad, I'm up." Momentary pause, I thought he had left, then it was like the heavens opened up . "No school." I couldn't believe him. I got up fom my bed, walked over to the staircase, looked at my father and all that came out was a hopeful, "Really?" He just smiled and said "Yes." When I heard him utter that wonderful one syllable word, tears came to my eyes, no joke. That is how happy I was. I changed back into my pajamas. Cleared my bed of the various history texts and slept for three more glorious hours. Sometimes, I swear that my bed is a little piece of heaven on earth.
