I let the new hard drive format over night just to find out when I got up that the format command that's built into Windows 7 doesn't allow for formating really large drives. So I woke up to an error screen that said the drive was too large for a FAT32 partition. I had to do some digging around online for some information and third-party programs to format it because Windows 7 wasn't going to be of much help. Alot of the programs I found weren't compatible with Windows 7 or with any 64 bit version of Windows. But I found another command line version of the Format command that will handle large drives and does a quick format. What I ended up having to do was to first format it in NTFS which is native to XP and 7 and then use the command line to convert it to FAT32.
Now it works like a charm! The enclosure is pretty sleek and aluminum so it will help with any heating issues. And the DVD player recognizes the drive and all of its contents so I now have a very hefty movie server and I don't have to mess around with burning, storing and searching for DVDs.
