After class today, my mother and I decided that we wanted to stay in front of the school a little longer than usual while we waited for someone to walk under this enormous fuzzy spider that was hanging from a half-torn web between two trees on either side of the sidewalk. For twenty minutes straight, we stared out at the other students, hoping for someone tall to walk by and push the poor innocent creature off its perch and then let out a horrified cry for our amusement.
At twenty five minutes, when nobody had gone under the spider web with the two crazy ladies guarding it, we began seriously contemplating calling up friends who lived in the area and trying to lure them under the two trees.
At thirty minutes, we began throwing pennies out the window to try and knock the spider down, having given up the hope that someone else would do it for us. Then, when we ran out of pennies, we switched to nickles. Then dimes.
Then I found a pen under my seat and threw that, and then joined my mother in screaming in sheer terror when the web broke and the huge, fuzzy night-crawler began swinging from side to side in the air, front legs flailing, and frantically scrambling to roll up my window before it managed to swing through and pummel us with its unimaginable spidery-revenge.
And that was the highlight of my day. :)
