So Julia and I went to see the Unwigged & Unplugged (Spinal Tap/Folksmen) show last night at the Beacon.
One of THE BEST concerts I've ever been to. Of course their music was amazing and you realize that not only did they write all their own Spinal Tap and Folksmen numbers, but of course some of the other songs from A Mighty Wind (Kiss at the end of the Rainbow, Do what the Good Book says) and Waiting For Guffman were also theirs (which they also played).
They had a video screen showing old clips, fan made videos, etc.
Guest stars helping them out on Fiddle, guitar, singing, etc. Elvis Costello being one of them!
Although they were not in costume and addressed their characters in the third person, they did use the "voices" occassionally. Christopher Guest did his Corky St. Clair voice along with his Folksmen Character voice when necessary.
He also did Nigel in the beginning and end of Stone Henge (yes they lowered a small stone henge too - on the video screen, with troll dolls as the druids).
They also had a Q&A session with the audience. Great stuff. REALLY fun and about 2 full hours or more of music. They played everything. Nobody was waiting for a song they didn't play.
Love these guys and would pay to see 'em again!
