So, I've finished reading the main Civil War book and the Iron Man and Captain America tie ins.
I'm going to try not to say too much here, because I don't want to get into a big argument or rant or whatever. But I have to say something. So I'm going to try to reduce my reaction to bullet points.
* Ow. Ow ow ow. This entire storyline hurts to read.
* I still feel like I'm missing out on half the story. I'm not talking about the other heroes, either. I'm just talking about Iron Man and Cap. I've read all of the Iron Man and Captain America issues leading up to Civil War, so I really shouldn't feel like half the story isn't there, but I do. Maybe reading Civil War: New Avengers will help?
* No one, and I mean no one has suffered more over registration than Tony has. Not Spider-Man, not Cap (not even considering his death), no one. I will not bother to list the emotional, mental, and spiritual battering the man has taken, but Jesus Christ. The writers certainly continued the Iron Man tradition of whumping Tony in every way they could think of...only this time they did it all at once.
* Civil War really is Tony's story, isn't it? It's his story even more than it's his and Cap's story. He's even in scenes that he doesn't appear in, if you understand what I mean.
* It's no wonder Tony thinks it's his job to try to fix the world: People keep telling him it is! I kid you not, I actually lost count of the number of times that character Y told Tony point blank that character X wasn't responsible for their choices, they were just following him. And then there's the times they just implied that Tony is personally responsible for the actions of the President, Congress, and every other individual involved in registration. *headdesk*
* Where the heck did the fan interpretation of Cap not being able to kill Tony at the end of that one battle come from? When I read it I was all surprised, because in Steve/Tony circles I had gotten the impression that Cap wasn't able to kill him and stood down of his own accord. Imagine my surprise to get to that panel and realize that Cap was entirely ready to kill him and had to be restrained by about a half a dozen emergency services personnel. ETA: Okay, I'm feeling a bit better about this part now. Whew. I really didn't like the way it was reading to me for awhile, there.
Okay, I better stop now. My bullet points are getting kind of long. *g* Suffice to say, I still like Tony, I have disturbing amount of sympathy for registration even if I think the fucked up the excecution in every way humanly possible, and I really need to read something happy and fluffy now.
*wishes I hadn't already read all the fluffy stuff I had on hand*
