Vacancy 2 - some sort of review

Sep 03, 2009 22:14

Okay, since I loved the first vacancy and it was really original, (plus I love Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson), I decided to give the sequel a go. First of all I was a bit dubious because I wondered how it would work given the ending of the first one, and the fact that one of the killers from the first movie, was in the second one as well, despite dying at the end of the first film. So understand my reservations. Any I wasn't exactly interested in the characters as I was in the first one and I just got very bored very quickly. It was set BEFORE the first one, so obviously that gave the impression that for the first film to work, the snuff killers can't have been discovered so therefore all 3 of the victims must have been killed... Well no that's not actually how it works (unbelievably). Anyway the only character I liked in the film died, which was shit cos he was the funniest and  the other 2 were wooden as shit, and the motel owner in this one is so not as menacing as the one in the first film. Anywho - the girl is the last surviving member in the party and she manages to get away - this does not make sense to me, since if she gets away (as she does in the end), then how could the motel snuff movie business survive since she would just get the cops and the whole thing would be fucked. Anyway the (stupid) way the writer avoids this is my explaining that in the small fraction of time that the girl escaped and the police got invovled, the main killer went and totally cleared up the crime scene, and removed EVERY camera, and every bit of evidence. Stupid.

Anyway I also don't like that they rip lines from the first film for example:
'Let's just leave, and go back to the car.'
'Let's just cut it out here for a while'
and
'They aren't just gonna let us sit in here either'

So my verdict: *
See the original, don't bother with this blase repeat.
