02 → you who have come from my old country

It's been two of the local weeks, and I'm still not certain we aren't stuck in the realm of a particularly capricious god. Vanishing and switched possessions, strange outfits we can't be rid of? It's not the province of a mortal mind ( Read more... )

Dragon. [Pause] It brings to mind water, for some reason.

[ping!]

Water? Yeah, it does. Rain and drought. How in Heaven's name does that fit in?

Sorry. Talking to myself, it seems.

One of those things we might never find out.

[Paaaaaaaaaaause]

You said you think dragons are like some kind of god, or guardian? [There be pings here.]

Or one of those things that will wait for its proper time.

That's the feeling I get from that word. It is the same way as you think sky and blue and cloud and sun follow, if you understand. They're part of what a dragon is.

Taking things as they come is a requirement for this place.

[Small ink spot from where he rested his pen for a moment] Gods and dragons seem like different things to me. But related [pause] somehow.

[A pause, then he draws a tiny doodle that looks something like a snake with a lot of legs. The pings he is getting from this conversation are highly confusing.]

Maybe that's a better way of describing it. They're... like Cara said. They're living beings, but divinity is a part of them.

That is a dragon?

That ['s not right, either. The idea of divinity in any of this doesn't fit.]

[Is it? He continues adding detail to it, wrestling with the pings. It is and it isn't, at the same time.] ...maybe.

That?

I'd say it doesn't seem very dragon-like to me, but I don't trust my impressions enough just yet.

I don't know. Something about what you say doesn't sound right, to me at least, yet [pause] I'm not sure it's a dragon in the same way you mean.

I don't think we've talked before; I'm called Cloud.

One word and too many meanings, maybe.

I'd hope I'd remember you; haven't met that many people yet. Good to meet you then. I'm Hawk.
