Chapter 1- First Impressions
Being a superhero on the slump of your
“heroic” career was never an easy thing. That was something
Kaburagi Kotetsu knew all too well. He knew that he was rash in his
way of applying justice, but come on! Being able to save people on
time was more important than paying importance to all the building he
might or might have not have wrecked. So he didn't really understand
why in the world his sponsors got so mad everytime he destroyed
something.
But when he got the horrible news that
his agency was closing due to financial problems, Kotetsu was
suprised, to say the least. But all wasn't thrown down the gutter
yet. According to his old manager, a new company had desired to hire
Kotetsu´s skills. What Kotetsu hand't been informed of however, was
that he would be required to work with a partner.
A very annoying, arrogant and prideful
partner.
So when he first met his partner, he
would have liked to say that his impression of him was that of a
young and polite kouhai willing to learn some tips from his senpai.
Well, he got a huge surprise when said Kouhai was nothing he had
expected.
“Are you Kaburagi Kotetsu?” the
young man had asked him as soon as they crossed paths. He looked to
be around 24 or 26 at most. Medium lenghted blonde hair, with soft
waves and striking green eyes. He was quite fit and tall, which only
made his “handsome” aura stronger, of course, accompanied by his
good sense of style.
“Yes...that would be me. You must be
my partner. Its a pleasure to meet you,” Kotetsu responded,
throwing a small grin at the man in front of him, although it slid
off his face and splat on the ground as soon as Barnaby opened his
mouth.
“Aren't you a bit too old to still be
in this hero business?” Yes, delicacy was never a specialty in
Barnaby´s menu.
“Excuse me?” Kotetsu asked,
wondering if maybe he had heard wrong. Because, his kouhai couldn't
be asking such a rude thing.
“I asked if you weren't too old for
this bussiness? I mean, you might just end up being a burden to me.
I don't want to have to come to your rescue when your age starts to
become an obstacle,” Bunny repeated, adding a few more insulting
lines along the way.
“Now listen here Bunny,” Kotetsu
said, all “respect and understanding” for his young partner gone,
“aren't you bein-”
“My name's not Bunny, its Barnaby.
Shees, this is why I can't deal with old people,” Barnaby
interrumpted Kotetsu, crossing his arms accross his chest as he
turned to glare at his partner.
“O-old people...you....” Kotetsu
grit his teeth as his patience decreased to below zero, “Has anyone
ever told you that you're an insufferble arrogant twat?”
“I am not, and no, nobody has ever
told me that, Old Man,” Barnaby said, a bit of anger showing on his
face, showing that he did not like being insulted.
“Ha! Sure, listen here Bunny boy,
stop being so angsty and pubescent and let's get along,” Kotetsu
said, “And show a little more respect! I am your senpai after
all!”
“Haaa?! Senpai? Aren't you just an
Old Man?” Barnaby said, uncrossing his arms and adjusting his
glasses higher on his nose, “And I am surprise that such a word as
“pubescent” can come out of an old person's mouth.”
And just like that, Kotetsu knew his
life would never be as easy again. From here on out, he would have
to deal with this Barnaby, a tyrant and arrogant jerk. Needless to
say, his first impression was a horrible one.
“Dear Tomoe back at home,” Kotetsu
grunted to himself later that day, resting on his couch in his
spacious apartment, “Kotetsu has come accross a troublesome
fellow.”
