So this weekend was the 19th Annual Sewing and Craft Show in Victoria, BC.
1 Surprisingly, I’ve never been to it before *gasp!*, but this year my darling twin was able to comp me some tickets! Yay! Unfortunately, she had to work,
2 so I asked my older sister to come with me and she, of course, said yes. I don’t write about my older sister all that much,
3 but she too is a lover off all things crafty and beautiful.
The first floor of the conference center was mostly devoted to scrap booking stuff, and were I at all interested in it I would have been jumping for joy. However, I’ve never really delved into that whole hobby much, prolly because I know I’d spend a fortune and I have too many hobbies already. So we quickly proceeded up to the main floor where the majority of the displays were.
It was a quilters delight.
I’ve never delved into quilting either, mostly because it’s pretty expensive and I don’t have the time to devote to it right now. I tell myself I’ve got years and years of crafting ahead of me, so quilting is something I will embrace as I get older and *hopefully* more financially stable.
And speaking of things outside my meager salary… the sewing machines.
Machines everywhere! Demoing complicated embroidery stitches and patterns. I was drooling all over them. I’m years away from being able to afford any of the machines I looked at but it was super neat seeing them all in action. Although, a part of me feels that downloading a pattern, and then having the machine just stitch it all out without you having to actually do anything feels a little like cheating to me? But I suppose it allows you the time to make really beautiful complicated stuff without spending years of your life stitching away.
Any who, what really got me was the fabric.
Fabric galore.
Monstrous amounts of yummy fabric. In quilting, they call giant squares of fabric, “fat quarters”.
So what i treated myself to was a few fabric samples. Lately I’ve been making purses, pencil cases, needle books and so forth. So these small chunks of fabric are just perfect.
There wasn’t a whole lot of yarn to my dismay. I only found two booths that had any and it wasn’t anything really new or super exciting. Which is a good thing in a sense because I have too much wool already! And I simply must use it all before I can possibly rationalize purchasing more.
4 What I did rationalize myself into buying was some more DMC thread. There was a pack of the most rich and beautiful colors. 36 skeins for $13.95. Floss is crazy expensive at Michael’s, and I end up using dollar store stuff sometimes. Of which you can instantly tell a difference. Dollar store embroidery thread is weaker, lifeless, lackluster and washed out. I’ve been doing so many stitching projects lately, that I felt treating myself to this yummy pack of thread was quite justifiable. ^^
So yah.. I heart thread
!
And I heart stitching!! I’ve got a few projects I’ve finished but can’t post pictures of yet as they are presents! But there’s something about painting with thread that really appeals to me. The most amusing part of our adventure yesterday, was the number of times Nicole (older sis) told me that I need to start making . Apparently she sees everything from quilts to bags, to wall tapestries in my future! I know that in the realm of crafting, I really am just a journeyman. There is still so much more to learn and experiment with! I love creating.
I really do.
Crafting is my drug of choice. I am hopelessly addicted to making things.
And universe willing, I will be crafting it up for many years to come!! Any who, that’s all for today! I hope you’re all having lovely weekends filled with peace and joy!
