Is it Caturday yet?

Every Tuesday morning, I volunteer at Salem Friends of Felines, cleaning cat cages and hanging out with the cats. There are so many litters of kittens there right now - some are still too little to be adopted. While I was cleaning their cages, I got to let them run around the room a bit, and that was tons of fun - they fought, rolling around in furry balls, climbed on top of cat litter sacks, hid behind stacks of cat food cans, hid under swivel chairs. It was a fucking fantastic way to spend the morning.

There is this one little guy there whose been there at least three weeks. He was in the sick room for a while with a kitty cold, and now he's out in the adoption room, so hopefully someone will take him home soon. He's all black, with medium-long hair, and he looks like he's about three months old - still a kitten, really. His name is Salem (original, huh?), and he's incredibly soft, and purrs when you pick him up. If I could have a cat in my apartment, I would adopt him in a heart beat. So if anyone reading this wants a cat and is going to be in Salem soon, think about this little guy.

One thing I've learned while working at the shelter is that black cats are the least likely to be adopted. It's very sad, because Blue is such a sweetie, as are plenty of other black cats. But people want something unique, I guess. There are so many black cats at the shelter right now.

tonight I made some pretty great pasta. The recipe called for sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, parmesan cheese, garlic, and mushrooms. It turned out pretty good. Last night I made stuffed peppers, and those were AMAZING. Lately I've been having good luck with new recipes. Trying to expand my repertoire, so that I'm not just making soup and mac n' cheese all the time.

Lots of reading to do tonight for my Late Imperial China class, and some catch up reading for African American History. Should get started on that.
