You mentionned developing a facade.

Most people don't do such to act melancholy, but rather to mask unhappiness.

A facade's purpose is to hide one's feelings. so i'm so distressed i can't even hold up the facade i've used over half my life, who cares?

And about not having a chance... Well... I thought that myself about my best friend, so for a long time I didn't tell him. I guess sometimes what we think is true, and sometimes it isn't. Emotions are funny things. So, you shouldn't ever be so certain about how other people feel.
