A new dress and ramblings

Some of you may know that I recieved a new sewing machine for XMas. I am so thrilled to be sewing again on my Viking Platinum 775. It's a bit of a step up from my Brother but easy enough to figure out...especially when you read the manual. Still stuck with the same old ruffler foot (universal fit, my butt) I'll be trading up to an actual Viking ruffler soon. The old one, however, did yield some nice looking ruffles which can be seen on my latest Victorian outfit.

Naturally, I'm using all Truly Victorian patterns (Grand Parlor skirt, Bustled Apron overskirt, Vest Basque bodice) because I haven't graduated to drafting my own or draping. I think they're good for base garments and easily embellished to make something unique. The materials are both Joann's Red Tag items and both were only $3/yrd. Can't really argue with that price. I changed the side the placket is on for the overskirt so I could access the pocket in the underskirt. I am thrilled that I'll be able to have a POCKET to carry stuff. Longtime costumers know the importance of pockets.

The underskirt is hemmed and waiting for some ruffles and bodice is fitted, just waiting for me to start it in the fashion fabric. I'm always nervous at this step because, to me, the fit of the bodice sells the entire outfit. I don't know when or where I'll get to wear this...as plans for a tea lunch have been put on hold for now. If I don't get to do that, there's always the Spring Picnic in March.

In other ME-related news:

I submitted my applications to the Health Sciences department at school and won't know if I've been accepted to either program I applied to (radiography or radiation therapy) until the first week of April. I'm a little paranoid I won't make either but a friend was accepted into both last year with the same GPA that I have...so I'm probably just worrying about nothing. I'm excited to get back to school but, if I get in, I won't be going back until August. It's going to be a looooong summer.

A few weeks ago we started a fitness plan called Power 90. We've been doing fairly well but have slacked off when it comes to working out. A lot of stuff has been interferring with our daily rituals and now that they've come and gone, we're hoping to get back on track. Already, the BF has lost 5lbs and I've lost 3.5...not too shabby. We've decided we'll start jogging on our "off day" just to keep our frames of mind focused.

Orlando was chosen for Star Wars Celebration 5 which is nice (no flying with tons of costumes!) but it means I need to get crackin' on something new and special for us to wear that week. I'd love to make a Ceremonial Leia dress since I bought the necklace years ago. If I've lost a signifigant amount of weight by then though, my Endor Trooper Leia will need to be remade. I might be able to get away with the same shirt and vest, but the pants will need a complete redo. I'm pretty sure I'll take my Cammie costume (deleted scene character, FTW!) since it's so easy to wear and I made it for under $50...including the boots! There's also 2 secret costumes we want to do, that we've never seen anyone else do before, and if I get a good headstart, I may share progress pics when the time comes.
