Have I ever mentioned..
how much I loathe and detest the "free market" ness of the US health system? Once little E was born, the hospital sent us a flood of bills -- oh maybe 20 of them. One of these was for $154.45. Some 9 months later, they, apparently, decided they should bill the service in a different way, so they resent the bill to our insurance company. As a result, we now owe only $64.48 for this bill. That is, they owe us a refund.
Guess what! They sent us a new bill for $64.48.
I've now wasted 2 hours figuring all this out on the phone with various bloody companies. How many more hours am I going to waste on this trying to explain to the hospital?
Have I mentioned how much I loathe this system? Never mind the (incredibly high) expense; this system has sucked about a week's worth of working hours out of me.
It is a truly stupid wasteful expensive idiotic system.
