I placed an order for a ring today. It is a 1ct H SI2 princess cut diamond mounted on a white gold ring that splits as it approaches the stone, with small stones along both sides of the split. The angles really compliment the angles of the princess cut.

The experience of picking a diamond and a ring was a little different than I expected I was expecting to go through a bunch of diamonds picking something out, but there was only one that really fit in with what I had in mind. I did look at a few other stones, including one of lower quality, but it was bad enough that I could see the imperfections, and I looked at different shapes, but in the end I decided the princess fit the ring best. My second choice was either radiant or cushion, but the radiant I thought was a little too visually busy, and the cushion was not as well matched to the ring.

I also briefly considered an antique ring, but it was the popular cut of the day (Rose cut) which isn't as flattering to the fire and brilliance of a diamond.
