Sweet little girl,
you aren’t even a princess-
but you should be.
Dark flowing hair,
glowing blue eyes…
You should have been an angel.
Sweet and round face,
full of wonder and surprise,
looking up at me.
Baby, you should have been an angel.
Sometimes I’m so scared
that those wings will sprout
soon you’ll want to fly.
“But it’s okay, mommy,” she says.
“You’re an angel too!”
That’s when I kiss those rosy
red cheeks and say: “You’re not
an angel, but you should be.”
