DTB Review Crew: Episodes 11 and 12

Feb 10, 2014 10:12

These are kinda short but sweet. Here we go!

EPISODE 11: WHEN ONE TAKES BACK WHAT WAS LOST WITHIN THE WALL (PART 1)
• Somehow the acronym P.A.N.D.O.R.A. escaped my notice. I’ve known what it means for a little while, but I had to google it and was totally frustrated to feel so out of the loop since everyone else seemed to know what it stood for. Welp, silly me because it was in the anime the whole time. (not important)
• I want some sort of explanation of Hei’s patch. I understand that the basic idea is to prevent detection of the fact that he’s a Contractor, but later Meena tells him there’s no reason to wear the patch since there’s no way to tell a Contractor from a regular human. So what is the point of the patch? How would it conceal the Contractor (scientifically speaking), especially if there’s no way to tell them apart to begin with?
• Also my first time really catching on to the explanation of the explosion/deaths in pursuit of the meteor shard that Huang tells Hei about. He says it’s an electrical fire or some circuits short or something, right? So many things leading to Nick being the “bad” guy but you have no way of really knowing until the end… or really, until Moku dies. That’s a good indicator.
• The bromance between Hei and Nick - I have to say I love it and not just because it’s cool for Hei to have a buddy. If Nick had been a woman, there would have been some delusional kiss or sex scene involved, ya know? Nick and Hei’s relationship really highlights the capability to bond with someone on a deep, emotional level JUST BECAUSE. It’s frighteningly cool to see Hei with his counterpart, virtually a copy. But it’s interesting to think about with consideration to the fact that Hei’s Contractor abilities are not his at all, but his sister’s. Makes you wonder if - even though they don’t know about each other’s abilities until the end - that spiritual connection would be possible if Hei were himself sans electrokinesis. I guess that’s getting ahead though since we’ve a ways to go before Hei even realizes that his powers are not his own.
EPISODE 12: WHEN ONE TAKES BACK WHAT WAS LOST WITHIN THE WALL (PART 2)
• Kikuchi is totally jealous of Hei from the get-go. As soon as Hei gets a little distracted, he totally sizes Hei up and from then it’s like he’s on his ‘list.’ No surprise that he points to Hei for the murder and later takes time out to rub it in his face that he got to talk to Meena. And really, what’s that about? If they didn’t sleep together does he still get bragging rights?
• I feel as though there’s a great deal of general concepts that are accepted but not really clear. Like the concept that the same powers would somehow counteract each other. Or when… ugh, I forget his name, but the important boss man who we ultimately discover is in with the Syndicate says that Meena recovered what she had lost and “paid the price.” What had she lost? And how EXACTLY did she pay for it?
