First effort
Yesterday, I was at Fu Dan University Children Hospital . It is one the biggest hospital in shanghai, and there are a lot of small children. They have to wait in line for a long hours, so we play with them. It is the project of hands on shanghai NGO.
I met up with Lilian and two other girls at the bus stop near Fudan. Also I grabbed some local pancake for a breakfast near. The way takes about 1 hour from Fudan.
The hospital is quite big, and there are a lot of adults and children - sitting on the grass, hanging around.
Firstly, we tried to pick up some chairs and table. So we took it from the meeting hall where doctors we discussing something. Then other 3 girls from HOS joined us .
I want to share some thought about volunteering. Generally, it is not really widespread to be a volunteer in Russia. One realtive in Vladivostok said me that it is waste if time. There are some reasons to think so. But lets talk about people who want to do a volunteering work. I met a lot of such people in Moscow. There are really interesting people with different motives. Some of them are successful, some are suffered, some just begin their lifeway.
In general people want to know that somebody needs them or their help. So, for such kind of people volunteering to help mostly themselves. They want to think that their life is more meaningful, and they want to help people who always say thanks, smile and all that stuff. But if the person just feel bad, or smth goes wrong, this "volunteer" will be regret and stop volunteering. Therefore, most people want to help children, instead of adults. Frankly, I think that it isn't easy to do such kind of work. Actually, it is much easier with children, than with adults, because children are innocent.Anyway, it most of them are good people, and sometimes they really make good deals. So, they are doing good things, but only untill it satisfy them. But it is not enough. You have to go further.
So, I think I am also one of this kind of people, however I want to go further. However, it is not easy way.
Next stage, is just to help people who need it and never wait smth in response. It also requires a lot of inner work, it is a new mind set actually. And to change the mindset is a really hard deal.
For me it is was quite hard experience. First, we cant understand each other, because my Chinese is quite poor at the moment. Second, I was a bit confused, because of new environment and I don't know what to tell them.
However, some girls are really great. They are able to encourage kids to play and to tell some stories. Some kids were small, some a bit elder.
There was one little girl, and she was really amazed. She was laughing, singing songs. And I was really happy for her. The other kid was small, and she were elder. Also the there was one small girl, she was quite shy. However, she looked like a kid from ads. And when volunteer took the picture of her she was posing =)
Also, we should facilitate the process, because sometimes kids want the same toy or smth like this. We tried to present small gifts for all children, just to make them smile. On the other hand it is more efficient to spent time with one kid.
