Travel Memo 09 & 10

09.
Okay so I spent the day in New York City and I had a blast! We didn't get to do typical tourist things like The Statue of Liberty or Coney Island, but it was still great!

We stayed with my relatives and their bathroom terrified me. Don't get me wrong, they are an extremely lovely family! (They gave me $100 bucks!) But when you're in a male dominant house with 2 little boys, 1 little girl and grandparents that all share one single bathroom I expected the worst. The bathroom reeked of dirty laundry and eternal piss. I consider it honorable that I took two showers. I think I used up half a can of febreeze to make it tolerable. x(

Oh yeah, I was supposed to write about NYC. Well on Friday we walked around Manhattan. I went into the Sanrio store for pennies. Yes, because I'm too cheap to buy anything Sanrio. Then we went to Times Square and explored Toys R Us because, "HOLY POOP IS THAT A FERRIS WHEEL IN THERE!?"

We also visited Kinokuniya (just bought Hetalia vol. 4 and Gintama) and saw the biggest Totoro plushie ever! I don't really care about Totoro, but it was so squishy and huggable!  However, there was no way that I was going to spend $300.

The Nintendo World Store was amazing! The first floor was the pokemon center, but the 3DS area was decorated with the aging of Link to commemorate Ocarina of Time I guess. It was kinda endearing to see Booger grab at everything Zelda related. I bet if I played the games I would be the same too.

We did some clothes shopping at H&M and it was pretty nice. I kept on staring at the scruffy dude on th projector because damn he was handsome! More walking led us to FAO and that toy store is like every child's dream! I kept on grabbing at all the plush animals! I swear I have a weakness towards fluffy things. They had plush camels and elephants for like $800. Yeah, never going to buy it, bit the details are amazing.

We tried to go to the American Museum of Natural History by cutting through Central Park, but we ended up taking a detour and ended up at the wrong museum much to our disappointment. I was pretty much burnt out at that point. My feet were swelling and kinda blistered because I didn't wear socks.

So it brings us to now, lost in the subways. We boarded the wrong train because we didn't read the signs. Haha! We'll get it down eventually!

(Forgot to post above entry after exiting subway. They lacked service.)

Ah, tonight is the first time we're driving at night and it's kinda our fault. See, us kids and father dearest really wanted to go to the museum and managed to convince mother that we'd be back around 1 in the afternoon so we could head to Virginia Beach in that same day.

So many things wrong with that theory. First thing first, we wasted time waiting at the station for a train that was never going to come. It's off duty for the weekend. By 10 (opening time) we boarded Train Q and by some lady's direction we boarded another train but we probably missed one detail because that train we got on passed the stop we needed so we had to backtrack.

We got to the museum at a little past 11. By the looks of it, two hours there wasn't going to be enough! The place is ENORMOUS. 5 FLOORS OF AMAZING.

We couldn't take our time to read the details, but we looked at the astronomy exhibit and it was pretty cool how hands on they were.

The next thing we looked at was the earth section. I spazzed because there were so many slabs of rocks oh my goodness I touched all that I could because my love for these pieces of earth woke up.

...heh, but then after that we saw stuffed animals, Native American Culture, Nature, and Oceanic life. I particularly loved this section because of the giant squid and humpback whale! My dad really liked the dinosaur exhibit. We had to get a ticket to see the biggest dinosaur they had but we really didn't have time to see that.

On our way out we got to see some tribal filipino artifacts. I remember asking my dad which one we would belong in, but I forget the name. starts with an I though.

We skimmed though everything else in hopes to visit it again! We ended up leaving the place at 1:45, getting back two hours past our promised time, so we ended up leaving my unkle's house at 4.

Guilt kinda growing now. We are going to reach VA Beach around midnight. Parents don't do well driving at night. Also, it's raining. Bah. I don't regret going to the museum though! It was the best part of the whole NYC experience for me. (Speaking of experience, you have seen classic New York after seeing a rat. Haha! It was huge!)
