Yes, I am STILL in Thailand and I wish I could stay longer. The food here is amazing, you can go out and find food anytime of the day. Yummy, delicious and cheap food! The countryside is gorgeous, there is so much to see and do! We have been renting a scooter most days and just zipping around on our own, sort of making our own tours up as we go. We have found so many amazing places by just going out on our own. We even know a few important words in Thai now!
We spent 2 days down in Sukhothai, unfortunately we had to take a bus for 6 hours each way, but it was completely worth it. The ruins are amazing! It is quite literally awesome to imagine what sort of temples and buildings used to be on that land. We stayed in a cute little bungalow in a garden for about $16 a night! We rented a scooter there as well and our second day got COMPLETELY mixed up trying to find the second historical site. We literally went over 200 kilometers on a scooter. Needless to say, I was sore after that adventure. Especially since we had to ride the bus that night.
Our trip to Sukhothai was short because my old roommate flew over from the states with her mom. We had them meet up with us in Chiang Mai. All four of us went out to the dam (gorgeous there too!) the day they arrived and then to an old temple that had caves. The caves were built for an eccentric yet brilliant monk so he could get away but the king could still find him. The next day we went to a cooking school that was held on an organic farm and spent the day making amazing food and stuffing our faces. (heaven, that's what it was)
The day after that we started a 2 day trek through the mountains. Last night was spent with a mountain tribe in a bamboo hut on stilts. Today we trekked some more (3 hours every day) and went to 2 more villages, did some whitewater and bamboo rafting and then took a truck back to town. Tonight we went to the Sunday Walking Street and ate amazing food from the street vendors and did a little shopping. I really do love it up here!
Tomorrow is our last day in Chiang Mai and that night we fly down to Bangkok to attempt to get home early the next morning. Wish us luck! The flights look okay, but when you fly standby anything can happen!
I really want to come back to Thailand, but there are so many other amazing places in the world that I still haven't been to! Such as Corsica, Morocco, Vietnam, Cairo, Cambodia, Indonesia, France, Abu Dhabi... I want to go everywhere!
