I've been thinking about the Superbowl, and it just seems completely absurd to me. How did a sports event become ... this? Last year, about 140 million people in the US watched the game. 140 MILLION! Yet for many people, it's the only football game they watch all year. For the last three years my friends at school and I have largely ignored it, focusing primarily on food from parties provided by other people.
I'll watch it this year because my friends are getting together for it, but they're not big football fans (especially the one who asked what day of the week it was on.) Don't get me wrong, I'm all for parties with friends, beer, and gluttonous greasy foods every once in a while, but the occasion strikes me as odd.
People watching it for the commercials is a little unnerving. Yes some of them are kind of funny, but they're still ads. Didn't we grow out of watching long-form toy commercials on Saturday mornings? I think we'd all be happier with the entertainers providing the entertainment and the advertisers providing the money for the entertainment.
I'm going to make Jalapeño poppers for the party. They're usually delicious, but not as spicy as I'd like. So I'm gonna chop up some chipotles and put them in the cream cheese. ::drools:: That is exciting to me.
Kind of an odd post I guess. I should find a picture of on odd-looking post to use with these sorts of entries.
