Well, that's bizzarre
The service tech came and looked at the fridge and pronounced the compressor dead. Fixing it would run in the neighborhood of $620. At that point, it's just as cheap to buy a new unit. Besides, I never much cared for the way the freezer in this one was laid out anyhow.
But while I was typing out my little bitchifesto I just posted, I heard this weird noise. A clunking, thumping noise, like ice falling out of the icemaker. Which is, of course, impossible, because the fridge is dead.
So I go to look, and lo! We have ice! Don't ask me how in the name of all that is holy we suddenly have ice, but it's colder than a well-digger's ass in the freezer compartment now.
Weird.
